RR Team, November 28, 2025November 28, 2025
Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla today emphasized that reforms in direct and indirect taxation, along with the “One Nation, One Tax” GST framework, have simplified and made India’s tax system more transparent, contributing significantly to national growth and prosperity. Speaking at the Parliament House Complex, he addressed Officer Trainees (OTs) of the 76th batch of the Indian Revenue Service (IRS–C&IT), who were attending an Appreciation Course in Parliamentary Processes and Procedures organized by PRIDE.

Shri Birla highlighted the increasing presence of women officers across various Central and All India Services, noting that this trend reflects India’s growth, aspirations, and progressive outlook. He praised the technical skills, knowledge, and innovation-driven mindset of today’s youth, observing that their fresh perspectives and determination will propel India toward global leadership and contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat as envisioned by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

The Speaker underlined the pivotal role of IRS officers not only in tax collection but also in facilitating businesses, respecting honest taxpayers, preventing illegal trade, money laundering, and maintaining financial discipline. He stressed that simplifying taxation and ensuring transparency strengthens citizen trust and enhances economic growth.Shri Birla also emphasized the use of modern tools like digital tax systems, AI-based assessments, and data analytics to enhance fairness and transparency in taxation. He encouraged OTs to deepen their understanding of taxation laws, parliamentary debates, and recent legislation to uphold the integrity of the system. “With dedication, capability, and technical expertise, the young IRS officers will strengthen India’s tax administration and play a crucial role in the country’s economic development,” he remarked.

The 76th batch of IRS–C&IT comprises 79 officer trainees, including five from Bhutan. Women constitute 40% of the batch, while 32% of the trainees hail from rural backgrounds. The average age is 28 years, with 51 officers having prior work experience. Secretary General of Lok Sabha, Shri Utpal Kumar Singh, delivered the welcome address for the occasion.
