Home Minister Anil Vij had accused congress MLA mamman khan of instigating communal killings in Nuh district.
The minister said that khan had been served a notice by the police to join the investigation and would be questioned. He added that the investigation so far had indicated that khan was in contact with a suspect named Taufiq, who had already been arrested in connection with the Nuh killings.
On Thursday evening, the special investigation team (SIT) of the Nuh police arrested congress MLA mamman khan for his suspected involvement in the Communal Killings of Pilgrims that occurred in the Haryana district during the Brajmandal Jalabhishek Yatra on July 31, according to police officials familiar with the case.
Confirming the arrest, Deputy Superintendent of Police Satish Kumar of Ferozepur Jhirka (Nuh) said, “Yes, khan has been arrested for his suspected involvement in the July 31 communal violence against the Pilgrims visiting Nalhad Mahadev Mandir in Nuh. However, due to security concerns, we cannot disclose his place of arrest or interrogation location at this time.”
khan was arrested by the Haryana police just hours after his petition for relief was heard by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday. khan had appealed to the court to prevent his arrest, claiming that he had been falsely implicated, but the State Government argued that his name was included in an FIR filed at the Nagina police station on August 1. The Haryana government disclosed to the High Court last Thursday that khan had been identified as a suspect in an FIR following the Nuh Killings. The government also asserted that they had phone call records and other evidence to support the allegations against him.
On September 4, Haryana’s Additional Advocate General, Deepak Sabharwal, confirmed that khan had been officially named as an accused, following a thorough review of the evidence. Sabharwal emphasized to reporters that there was substantial and compelling evidence linking khan to the case.
