Mandaviya Showcases India’s Social Security Gains

RR Team, November 5, 2025November 6, 2025
Union Labour Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya highlighted India’s transformative progress in poverty alleviation and social security under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha, Qatar. Speaking at the plenary session, Dr. Mandaviya emphasized that social progress is achievable when people remain at the core of policy and development becomes a shared endeavour.

India’s Inclusive Development Journey

Dr. Mandaviya outlined India’s approach guided by the philosophy of Antyodaya, empowering the last person in the line. Over the last decade, approximately 250 million Indians have been lifted out of multidimensional poverty through reforms, convergence of welfare programs, and digital innovation.

Programs ensuring food, health, and housing security have reached millions: 118 million children receive nutritious mid-day meals, over 800 million citizens enjoy food security, 425 million Indians have health coverage, and more than 37 million houses have been provided to low-income families. The unemployment rate has dropped from 6% in 2017–18 to 3.2% in 2023–24, and women’s employment has nearly doubled through Self Help Group mobilization and credit disbursements.

Enhanced Social Security Coverage

India’s social security coverage has grown from 19% in 2015 to 64.3% in 2025. Recognizing these efforts, the International Social Security Association awarded India the “ISSA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Social Security.” Dr. Mandaviya highlighted the role of digital infrastructure, citizen IDs, mobile internet, and bank accounts in enabling efficient last-mile delivery of benefits through Direct Benefit Transfer.

Global Development and Shared Learning

The Minister emphasized that India’s development path serves as a model for the Global South. India’s policies prioritize women-led initiatives, traditional medicine systems, cooperatives, and digital public infrastructure as engines for inclusive growth. India remains committed to the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals and aligns its economic and social strategies with climate action objectives.

Dr. Mandaviya also addressed certain comments made by Pakistan, clarifying India’s position on cross-border terrorism, the Indus Waters Treaty, and Jammu & Kashmir, asserting that Pakistan should focus on its own developmental challenges rather than misusing international platforms.

Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas in Action

Inspired by PM Modi’s mantra “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”, Dr. Mandaviya stressed that inclusive social progress requires innovation, participation, and shared responsibility. India is ready to share its best practices, strengthen global partnerships, and contribute to building a socially just and inclusive world.
