Markets Overflowing with Republic Day Merchandise in Patna

RR Team, January 24, 2025January 24, 2025

As Republic Day approaches, the streets of Patna are bustling with vendors offering a variety of patriotic merchandise. From traffic signals to roadside stalls, hawkers are showcasing their collections of tricolour-themed items, including national flags made of cotton, silk, and khadi.

Apart from the grand celebration planned at Gandhi Maidan, Republic Day will be marked with flag-hoisting ceremonies in educational institutions, government and private offices, residential societies, and individual households. The markets are teeming with products like flags, badges, wristbands, scarves, t-shirts, caps, stickers, and balloons, catering to the festive spirit.

Vendors like Mohd Saqib, stationed near the Patna High Court, shared his preparation: “I’ve been setting up my stall for 20 years. Tricolours are available in three sizes, priced between ₹30 and ₹120. Sales usually pick up closer to January 24, as schools and offices start buying in bulk.”

Another vendor, Mohd Sonu, reported initial sales of ₹1,200 worth of merchandise, including badges and wristbands priced between ₹150 and ₹200 per pack.

Khadi establishments near Gandhi Maidan and Maurya Lok have also witnessed a surge in demand for khadi items like Gandhi caps, kurtas, saris, and pajamas. Khadi Mall manager Ramesh Chaudhary highlighted the popularity of tricolour flags and clothing, while Siddharth Jain, a store manager, noted that kurtas are priced between ₹600 and ₹2,500, with other items like pajamas, gamchhas, and bundis ranging from ₹350 to ₹3,000.

Shopkeeper Rakesh Kumar, based on Boring Road, mentioned that students are the main buyers, purchasing badges, sashes, ribbons, and flags for their performances in Republic Day celebrations.

With such an array of patriotic items available, the city is gearing up for a vibrant and spirited Republic Day celebration.
