The two accused in the shocking Meerut murder case, Muskan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla, are reportedly struggling with severe drug addiction inside prison, refusing food and demanding narcotics as they go through intense withdrawal. Both27- Year-old, currently lodged in separate barracks at the Meerut District Jail, are under constant medical supervision due to their deteriorating condition.
Muskan and Sahil were arrested for the gruesome murder of Muskan’s husband, Saurabh Rajput, a merchant navy employee, on March 4. Authorities allege that the couple stabbed him to death before dismembering his body and concealing it in a cement-filled drum. After the crime, the duo fled to Himachal Pradesh, where they were seen celebrating Holi, cutting a cake, and posing for pictures in snow-covered landscapes. They were eventually apprehended upon their return to Meerut on March 17.
According to jail officials, Muskan and Sahil were found to be heavily dependent on drugs, including injectable substances. Their addiction has made their transition to prison life extremely difficult. Muskan reportedly demanded morphine injections, while Sahil displayed extreme restlessness without marijuana. Their withdrawal symptoms have been so severe that they have refused to eat, a common side effect of sudden drug deprivation.
The prison’s de-addiction center has initiated treatment for both accused, with doctors closely monitoring their condition. Officials estimate that it may take at least ten days for them to regain some stability. Their aggressive behavior and desperation for drugs have prompted authorities to take extra precautions to prevent any harm to themselves or others.
The case has not only shocked the city of Meerut but also shed light on the devastating effects of drug addiction. As the investigation continues, the accused remain under strict surveillance, grappling with the consequences of both their actions and their substance dependency.
