Meghalaya Pineapple Festival Boosts Organic Push

RR Team, August 2, 2025August 1, 2025

The vibrant and flavorful Meghalaya Pineapple Festival 2025 was held in New Delhi with Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan leading the charge to promote Meghalaya’s organic treasures.

Centre Commits to Meghalaya’s Agricultural Growth

In a passionate address, the Union Minister assured that the Central Government will provide full support to develop Meghalaya’s agriculture sector. With Chief Minister Shri Conrad K. Sangma and senior officials present, the event saw the exchange of key MoUs on pineapple and the release of a progress booklet on Meghalaya’s agricultural journey.

Shri Chouhan emphasized, “Under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership, we are committed to the Northeast’s development. Meghalaya’s organic produce has unmatched quality and must reach global markets.”

Organic Pineapples and Beyond: A Global Opportunity

Meghalaya’s pineapples are unique in taste and quality. But the state offers much more — from turmeric and ginger to mushrooms and jackfruit. The Minister lauded Meghalaya’s farmers for their “hard work and sincerity,” calling their produce world-class and predominantly organic.

He called on the nation to consume more of Meghalaya’s organic offerings. “Our products are the best in the world. Let’s not hesitate to use them,” he urged.

Plans for Export and Aerial Transport of Produce

One of the most exciting announcements was the Centre’s support for ‘air lifting’ agricultural products from Meghalaya. This move will help overcome the logistical challenges of transporting perishable goods from the remote hilly terrain to national and international markets.

The possibility of using trains for transport is also being explored. Shri Chouhan mentioned that the government is working closely with the state to boost exports and infrastructure.

Scientific Backing for Farmers’ Needs

Recalling his earlier visit to Meghalaya during the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, Shri Chouhan said farmers voiced key concerns — especially around increasing the shelf life of agricultural produce. He confirmed that the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) scientists are actively working on solutions.

“I will soon visit Meghalaya again with a team of scientists,” he announced, affirming the Centre’s intention to take concrete, science-backed steps to support local agriculture.

Agro-Processing and Startups to be Encouraged

The Minister highlighted the importance of processing units for adding value to agricultural output. He stated that “serious attempts are being made to establish agro-processing infrastructure,” which could open up local employment opportunities and prevent post-harvest losses.

He also called upon the youth to start agriculture-based startups. “This is a golden opportunity for young entrepreneurs,” he said, emphasizing the potential of agri-businesses in the Northeast.

Roadmap for Agricultural Development in Meghalaya

The Union Government, in collaboration with the state, will soon draft a comprehensive roadmap to enhance productivity and support farmers. A special focus will be placed on improving pineapple yield per hectare and ensuring the long-term sustainability of organic farming practices.

The event painted a hopeful picture of Meghalaya’s agricultural future — one where nature, science, and innovation work hand-in-hand to uplift farming communities.

Conclusion: A National Mission to Promote Northeast’s Riches

With committed leadership, focused investment, and modern logistics, Meghalaya’s organic produce is set to shine on the global stage. The Meghalaya Pineapple Festival 2025 was more than a celebration — it was a symbol of India’s pledge to empower its Northeast.

“The time is right to support and consume local organic produce,” said Shri Chouhan. His message was loud and clear: Buy Meghalaya. Support Organic. Celebrate Northeast India.
