MHI Marks Swachhata Pakhwada 2025 with Clean Drive

RR Team, September 3, 2025September 3, 2025
The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) successfully observed Swachhata Pakhwada 2025 from 16th to 31st August, reinforcing the Government of India’s Swachh Bharat Mission. The campaign aimed at promoting cleanliness, hygiene, and sustainability across workplaces and public spaces.

Pledge for a Cleaner India

The observance began on 18th August with a pledge-taking ceremony led by Dr. Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary (HI), where officers and staff of MHI committed themselves to uphold the principles of cleanliness and sustainability. This symbolic start set the tone for a fortnight of intensive activities at Udyog Bhawan and beyond.

Cleanliness Drives at Udyog Bhawan

On 22nd August, a thorough cleanliness drive covered all offices, staircases, corridors, and common areas within Udyog Bhawan. Old furniture, obsolete IT equipment, and unserviceable materials were removed to create a clutter-free work environment. Awareness initiatives also encouraged staff to reduce single-use plastics and adopt eco-friendly alternatives.

An essay competition on the theme “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” saw active participation from ministry officials, further strengthening the spirit of collective responsibility.

Recognition of Safai Mitras

In a heartfelt gesture, Joint Secretary Shri Vijay Mittal felicitated the Ministry’s Safai Mitras on 29th August. They were presented with gift items in recognition of their dedicated service in maintaining cleanliness within the ministry premises.

Active Role of CPSEs

Several Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) under MHI played a crucial role in extending the campaign’s reach. Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) organized pledge ceremonies, displayed awareness banners, and conducted large-scale cleaning operations at its units in Ranipet, Tiruchy, Hyderabad, Bhopal, and Delhi. From road cleaning to workplace sanitation, BHEL showcased its commitment to sustainability.

Instrumentation Limited engaged teachers and children of its nursery school in cleanliness drives, ensuring early sensitization among young minds. NEPA Limited carried out workplace hygiene initiatives around its paper machine facilities, while Cement Corporation of India conducted a plantation drive at its Bokajan unit with active participation from employees and the community.

Towards Viksit Bharat@2047

The observance of Swachhata Pakhwada 2025 highlighted MHI’s vision to align with Viksit Bharat@2047. By integrating cleanliness, sustainability, and collective responsibility into daily practices, the ministry and its CPSEs are contributing to building a cleaner, healthier, and developed India for future generations.
