Ministry of Labour & Employment Signs MoU with Rapido to Boost Gig Worker Welfare

Ministry of Labour & Employment Signs MoU with Rapido to Boost Gig Economy Jobs via NCS Portal

In a move aimed at bridging the gap between job seekers and employment opportunities in the gig and logistics sectors, the Ministry of Labour & Employment signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rapido in New Delhi today. The signing took place in the presence of Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and Minister of State Sushri Shobha Karandlaje.

The partnership focuses on leveraging the National Career Service (NCS) portal to create up to 50 lakh livelihood opportunities over the next 1–2 years. Rapido, a leading bike taxi and mobility platform, will now post verified job openings—including roles for bike taxis, autos, and cab drivers—directly on the NCS platform. This collaboration marks a major push to integrate private sector hiring with government employment services.

A Unified Vision for Employment and Empowerment

Speaking at the event, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya highlighted the NCS portal’s growing relevance in India’s employment ecosystem. “With over 1.75 crore active job seekers and 40 lakh registered employers, the NCS is evolving into a comprehensive, hyperlocal employment solution. It is already integrated with platforms like My Bharat, eShram, SIDH, and the MEA’s eMigrate portal,” he said. He welcomed Rapido’s commitment and described the partnership as a key step in making NCS a one-stop destination for job matching, skilling, and counselling, both in India and abroad.

Union Minister of State Sushri Shobha Karandlaje applauded Rapido’s focus on gender inclusivity, especially its plan to generate 5 lakh jobs for women. She noted that such partnerships are vital for boosting workforce participation across diverse demographics.

Rapido’s “Pink Rapido” and Gender-Inclusive Hiring

Rapido Co-founder Pavan Guntupalli thanked the Ministry for the opportunity and emphasised the company’s intent to scale up inclusive hiring through the collaboration. He highlighted Rapido’s “Pink Rapido” initiative, which is designed to create safer and more accessible workspaces for women in the mobility sector.

Highlights of the MoU:

The Secretary of the Ministry of Labour & Employment called the partnership “a reflection of the Ministry’s evolving approach”—one that emphasises inclusivity, innovation, and real-world impact.

This MoU is part of a larger strategy by the Ministry to collaborate with private employment platforms, ensuring more dynamic and accessible job opportunities for India’s rapidly growing gig economy.
