Poshan Tracker Enhances Real-Time Monitoring
A major technological intervention under Mission POSHAN 2.0 is the Poshan Tracker, launched in March 2021 as a governance tool to digitally monitor Anganwadi Centres, workers, and beneficiaries. The platform enables near real-time data collection on key indicators such as attendance, early childhood education activities, nutrition delivery, and growth monitoring.
The tracker also ensures accurate and timely delivery of services such as hot cooked meals and take-home rations. With integrated dashboards, policymakers can monitor programme implementation and identify gaps, enabling faster decision-making and corrective actions.
To further strengthen accountability, a Facial Recognition System has been incorporated into the application. This feature ensures that supplementary nutrition benefits reach only registered and verified beneficiaries, improving efficiency and reducing leakages in the system.
Massive Infrastructure Expansion Underway
The government has significantly expanded Anganwadi infrastructure under the Saksham Anganwadi initiative, a key component of Mission POSHAN 2.0. A total of 50,000 new Anganwadi buildings are planned between 2021 and 2026, with construction aligned with the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme to accelerate development in rural areas.
As of February 2026, more than 1,00,333 Anganwadi Centres have already been upgraded into Saksham Anganwadis. These upgraded centres feature improved facilities, better service delivery mechanisms, and enhanced monitoring capabilities.
Special focus has been placed on tribal and remote regions. Under the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan, 2,500 Anganwadi Centres have been approved nationwide, including 178 centres in particularly vulnerable tribal group areas.
Similarly, under the Dharti Aaba Janjati Gram Unnat Abhiyan, 875 Anganwadi Centres have been sanctioned, of which 639 are already operational, serving over 34,000 beneficiaries. These measures aim to ensure equitable access to nutrition and child care services in underserved regions.
Capacity Building and Training of Anganwadi Workers
Capacity building has emerged as a cornerstone of Mission POSHAN 2.0. Through the Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi initiative, the Ministry has implemented a nationwide cascading training model to equip frontline workers with the necessary skills and knowledge.
More than 10,05,756 Anganwadi workers have been trained as of February 2026. Training covers child nutrition, early childhood care, monitoring methods, and service delivery improvements, ensuring consistent and quality care across the country.
Master trainers, including district officials and supervisors, play a key role in disseminating knowledge to workers at the grassroots level, ensuring uniform standards nationwide.
Strengthened Supply Chains and Quality Assurance
The government has also introduced streamlined guidelines for procurement, quality assurance, and supply chain management. These guidelines ensure that nutritional supplements meet defined standards and are delivered efficiently at state, district, and village levels.
Supply chains are monitored closely to prevent shortages or delays, and authorities have confirmed that there have been no disruptions in supplementary nutrition delivery under the programme.
The Ministry has also integrated traditional health knowledge through AYUSH principles into nutrition strategies, promoting holistic health and well-being among children and mothers.
Digital Governance Driving Better Outcomes
The integration of digital tools such as Poshan Tracker reflects a broader shift towards technology-driven governance in social welfare programmes. By enabling real-time tracking, data analysis, and performance monitoring, the government is ensuring that services reach beneficiaries efficiently and transparently.
The Ministry of Women and Child Development continues to review programme implementation using digital data insights. This allows policymakers to identify gaps, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen accountability mechanisms.
Commitment to Child Nutrition and Development
Mission POSHAN 2.0 represents one of India’s most ambitious efforts to address child malnutrition and improve early childhood development. By combining infrastructure development, workforce training, digital monitoring, and supply chain reforms, the government aims to ensure comprehensive nutrition support for children, pregnant women, and mothers.
Officials say the programme’s integrated approach is already improving service delivery, strengthening monitoring, and expanding coverage, especially in rural and tribal regions.
As India continues to leverage technology and strengthen grassroots infrastructure, Mission POSHAN 2.0 is expected to play a critical role in improving child nutrition outcomes and building a healthier future generation.
