The Ministry of Defence has signed contracts worth ₹2,500 crore to strengthen the Indian Armed Forces with advanced indigenous equipment. The agreements, signed in the presence of Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi, include the procurement of the Nag Missile System (NAMIS) Tracked version, an advanced anti-tank weapon platform, and approximately 5,000 Light Vehicles. These contracts fall under the ‘Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed, Developed, and Manufactured)’ category, reinforcing India’s commitment to self-reliance in defence production.
The NAMIS (Tr) weapon system, developed by the Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL) under DRDO, comes with a contract value of ₹1,801.34 crore. This state-of-the-art anti-tank platform will significantly enhance the Indian Army’s mechanized infantry by providing superior firepower and operational readiness. Equipped with a fire-and-forget missile system and advanced sighting technology, NAMIS (Tr) is designed to effectively counter enemy armor, giving the armed forces a decisive edge in combat.
In addition to this, contracts have been signed with Force Motors Ltd and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd for the procurement of modern light vehicles. These vehicles, designed with advanced technology and enhanced engine power, have a payload capacity of 800 kg, ensuring mobility across diverse terrains and operational conditions. Their induction will improve the flexibility and logistical efficiency of the Armed Forces.
Both procurements are a major step in strengthening India’s defence manufacturing sector and fostering self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. These projects will not only enhance indigenization but also generate significant employment opportunities by boosting the MSME sector involved in component manufacturing. By investing in cutting-edge indigenous technology, the Ministry of Defence continues its efforts to modernize the country’s defence infrastructure while empowering the domestic industry.
