CQB Carbines: Enhancing Infantry Lethality
The Rs 2,770 crore contract covers the acquisition of over 4.25 lakh CQB Carbines along with accessories for the Indian Army and Indian Navy. Bharat Forge Ltd and PLR Systems Pvt Ltd have been awarded the contracts, marking a significant milestone in the modernisation of India’s infantry arsenal under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ vision.
The CQB Carbine is designed for rapid, decisive action in confined spaces, offering a high rate of fire and compact form factor. The initiative also strengthens indigenous defence manufacturing, engages Indian MSMEs in components and raw material supply, and contributes to employment generation.
Heavy Weight Torpedoes: Boosting Naval Firepower
For the Indian Navy’s Kalvari Class Submarines (P-75), MoD signed a Rs 1,896 crore contract with WASS Submarine Systems S.R.L., Italy, for the procurement of 48 Heavy Weight Torpedoes along with associated systems. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in April 2028 and conclude by early 2030.
The Heavy Weight Torpedoes, equipped with advanced technological features, will significantly enhance the operational capabilities of the six Kalvari Class submarines, aligning with India’s strategic focus on maritime security and indigenous defence advancement.
MoD Modernisation Drive
The FY 2025-26 has seen the Ministry of Defence sign capital contracts worth Rs 1,82,492 crore to modernise the Armed Forces. These contracts for CQB Carbines and Heavy Weight Torpedoes reflect the Government’s commitment to equipping the military with world-class indigenous and imported technologies, while bolstering the Make-in-India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.
