PM Modi Honours Acharya Vidyanand Ji’s Spiritual Legacy

On June 29, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Centenary Celebrations of Acharya Shri Vidyanand Ji Maharaj in New Delhi. Speaking at Vigyan Bhawan, he described India as the world’s most ancient living civilization. He praised saints like Acharya Vidyanand Ji for preserving India’s spiritual and cultural roots.

A Tribute to a Timeless Spiritual Leader

PM Modi called the event a sacred union of history and faith. He recalled that Acharya Vidyanand Ji received the title of ‘Acharya’ on this very date in 1987. The occasion not only celebrated his 100th birth anniversary but also decades of spiritual leadership.

Calling him a “visionary of the era”, Modi highlighted his key contributions. These include over 150 authored texts, years of spiritual travel on foot, and tireless efforts to revive the Prakrit language, the original medium of Jain scriptures.

Honouring His Legacy: Coins, Stamps, and Recognition

To commemorate the occasion, the government released special coins and postal stamps. PM Modi received the title of ‘Dharm Chakravarti’, which he dedicated to the nation. This gesture reflected the humility and devotion that defined Acharya Vidyanand Ji’s life.

Celebrating Prakrit and Indian Culture

Modi announced that Prakrit has been granted classical language status. PM Modi highlighted ongoing efforts to digitize ancient Jain manuscripts, promote Indian languages in education, and restore key cultural sites—all inspired by Acharya Vidyanand Ji’s teachings, which also influence national missions like the Viksit Krishi Abhiyan.

Jainism’s Eternal Values for Modern India

“The teachings of Tirthankaras and Acharyas remain timeless,” said PM Modi. He praised Acharya Ji’s ‘Vachanamrit’ movement and devotional music for making Jain wisdom accessible to the public.

National Resolutions Inspired by Spiritual Values

PM Modi reminded the audience of the nine resolutions shared during Navkar Mantra Diwas. These range from water conservation and supporting local goods to serving the poor. He noted that each aligns with Acharya Ji’s teachings of sustainability, inclusivity, and service.

Amrit Kaal Rooted in Spiritual Consciousness

“India’s Amrit Kaal vision draws from the wisdom of saints,” said Modi. He stressed that leaders like Acharya Vidyanand Ji serve as moral guides. He connected modern schemes—like PM Awas Yojana and Ayushman Bharat—to India’s deep-rooted ethos of selfless service.

Conclusion

The Centenary Celebrations of Acharya Vidyanand Ji Maharaj represent more than a historical milestone. They offer a moment of spiritual reflection. As India pursues progress, the Acharya’s teachings continue to guide the nation toward a just, compassionate, and inclusive future.
