Commemorating Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s Legacy
Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, or National Unity Day, is celebrated annually on October 31 to honour the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister. Known as the “Iron Man of India,” Patel’s efforts were instrumental in integrating over 560 princely states into a unified nation after independence.
Speaking at the event, MoWCD officials highlighted Patel’s vision of a united India and underscored the importance of ethical governance and transparency in public service. The Integrity Pledge, they said, serves as a reminder of the duty to uphold honesty, accountability, and public trust.

National Unity Through Integrity

The Integrity Pledge initiative, led by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), aims to promote values of integrity and combat corruption at all levels of government. By taking the pledge, officials reaffirmed their dedication to transparent governance and the principles of good conduct in both personal and professional spheres.
This observance forms part of nationwide activities celebrating Rashtriya Ekta Diwas 2025, during which several ministries, educational institutions, and government departments organized Run for Unity events, integrity campaigns, and awareness drives promoting patriotism and ethical conduct.
Reaffirming the Spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat
The Ministry also reiterated its alignment with the vision of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’, emphasizing inclusive national development, women’s empowerment, and social harmony. Through initiatives like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Mission Shakti, and Poshan 2.0, MoWCD continues to advance Sardar Patel’s legacy of unity through social empowerment and justice.
As the Integrity Pledge ceremony concluded, officials expressed renewed determination to serve the nation with honesty and a sense of responsibility, embodying the ideals of the Iron Man whose leadership continues to inspire generations of India
