Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio recently lost 10.9 million subscribers, primarily due to a hike in recharge plan prices. The drop in subscribers occurred during the second quarter, with users opting out after the price increase. However, this decline in user base has not significantly impacted the company’s overall performance.
Despite the decrease in subscribers, Jio’s net profit grew to Rs 6,536 crore. The company also saw its Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) rise from Rs 181.7 to Rs 195.1, and its 5G subscriber count jumped from 130 million to 147 million.
According to a recent OpenSignal report, Jio continues to dominate in terms of network speed, coverage, and consistency. The October 2024 India Mobile Network Experience Report shows Jio’s download speed reaching 89.5 Mbps, more than double that of Airtel at 44.2 Mbps, while Vi trailed with 16.9 Mbps. Jio’s extensive coverage, especially in rural areas, along with a network consistency score of 66.5%, positions it as the leading choice for users in need of fast and reliable mobile internet for streaming, gaming, and other services.
