
Explosion at SBL Energy Limited

According to police officials, the blast occurred at the SBL Energy Limited factory, a company engaged in the manufacture of mining and industrial explosives. The intensity of the explosion caused severe structural damage within the premises and resulted in multiple casualties.
Local residents reported hearing a loud explosion that shook nearby areas. Emergency services were alerted immediately, and rescue personnel rushed to the site to evacuate victims and search for survivors.
Rescue Operations Intensified
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis termed the incident “unfortunate and tragic” and confirmed the death toll at 17. He stated that 18 injured persons have been shifted to hospitals in Nagpur for treatment.
The Chief Minister informed that teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO), and Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH) reached the spot to assist in relief and assessment work.
Authorities are continuing to examine the site to ensure no additional victims remain trapped. The focus remains on providing immediate medical care and stabilising the affected area.
Compensation Announced
The Maharashtra government has announced financial assistance of ₹5 lakh for the families of each deceased victim. In addition, the concerned company has assured separate financial support to the affected families.
Chief Minister Fadnavis extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and assured that the State government would provide all necessary support during this difficult time.
Investigation Ordered
A thorough investigation has been ordered to determine the cause of the explosion. Officials from PESO and industrial safety departments will assess whether safety protocols were followed and if there were any lapses in compliance.
Factories dealing with explosives are required to adhere to strict safety norms under guidelines issued by regulatory authorities.
The State government is also expected to review existing industrial safety mechanisms to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Community in Mourning
The blast has left Raulgaon village in deep grief. Families of the victims gathered outside hospitals and the factory premises, awaiting updates on their loved ones. Many workers employed at the unit were local residents who depended on the factory for livelihood.
As investigations continue, authorities have urged citizens to avoid speculation and allow agencies to complete their inquiry. The focus remains on relief, rehabilitation, and accountability.
