Narendra Modi to Launch ₹5,450 Cr Projects in Assam

Guwahati, February 13, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam on February 14, where he will inaugurate and launch infrastructure, digital, and education projects worth over ₹5,450 crore. The visit marks a significant push toward strengthening connectivity, disaster preparedness, higher education, and digital infrastructure in the North-Eastern region.

Strategic Emergency Landing Facility in Dibrugarh

The Prime Minister will begin his visit by landing at the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) on the Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh. This facility is the first of its kind in Northeast India and has been developed in coordination with the Indian Air Force to handle both military and civilian aircraft during emergencies.

The ELF has dual-use capabilities and can accommodate fighter aircraft weighing up to 40 tonnes and transport aircraft up to 74 tonnes. It is designed to enhance India’s disaster response capabilities and strengthen strategic preparedness in the region, which is often affected by floods, earthquakes, and other natural disasters.

During his visit to the ELF, the Prime Minister will also witness aerial demonstrations by fighter jets, transport aircraft, and helicopters, showcasing the facility’s operational capabilities.

Major Connectivity Boost with Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu

One of the key highlights of the visit will be the inauguration of the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu, a major six-lane bridge constructed across the Brahmaputra River at a cost of around ₹3,030 crore. The bridge connects Guwahati with North Guwahati, significantly improving regional connectivity.

This is the first extradosed bridge in Northeast India and incorporates advanced engineering technologies, including friction pendulum bearings to withstand seismic activity. It also features a Bridge Health Monitoring System that enables real-time monitoring of structural conditions, ensuring long-term safety and durability.

The bridge is expected to reduce travel time between Guwahati and North Guwahati to just seven minutes, providing major relief to commuters and boosting economic activity in the region.

Digital Infrastructure Strengthened with National Data Centre

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the National Data Centre for the North-Eastern Region at Amingaon in Assam’s Kamrup district. The state-of-the-art facility has been designed to support critical government applications and ensure secure and reliable digital services.

The data centre will also function as a disaster recovery hub for other national data centres, strengthening the digital backbone of the region. This initiative aligns with the government’s Digital India vision and will enhance citizen access to government services across the Northeast.

IIM Guwahati to Boost Higher Education in Northeast

As part of his visit, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Guwahati, marking a major milestone in strengthening higher education infrastructure in the region.

The institute is expected to play a crucial role in developing management talent and promoting entrepreneurship. It will also contribute to economic growth by nurturing skilled professionals and supporting innovation.

This initiative reflects the government’s focus on expanding access to quality higher education and creating new opportunities for students in the Northeast.

Electric Buses to Improve Urban Mobility

The Prime Minister will also flag off 225 electric buses under the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme. These buses will be deployed across Guwahati, Nagpur, Bhavnagar, and Chandigarh to improve public transportation and promote clean mobility.

The introduction of electric buses is expected to benefit more than 50 lakh citizens by providing affordable, efficient, and environmentally friendly transport. This move is also aligned with India’s broader goals of reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable urban development.

Major Push for Northeast Development

The projects being inaugurated during the Prime Minister’s visit represent a comprehensive effort to accelerate development in the Northeast. These initiatives cover key sectors including transportation, digital infrastructure, disaster preparedness, and education.

Improved connectivity through modern bridges and transport infrastructure will strengthen regional integration and economic growth. Investments in digital infrastructure will enhance governance and service delivery, while education initiatives will empower youth and build future leadership.

The strategic emergency landing facility will further strengthen India’s disaster response and defence preparedness in the region, ensuring faster deployment of rescue and relief operations when needed.

Strengthening India’s Strategic and Economic Capabilities

The Prime Minister’s Assam visit highlights the government’s continued focus on strengthening infrastructure and development in the Northeast. By investing in modern infrastructure and digital systems, the government aims to ensure balanced regional growth and economic progress.

These initiatives are expected to improve quality of life, create employment opportunities, and enhance economic activity across Assam and the broader Northeast region.

The visit underscores the importance of the Northeast as a key region in India’s growth story and strategic framework, reinforcing the government’s commitment to inclusive national development.
