National Ayush Mission Summit Stresses Local SOPs

RR Team, September 4, 2025September 4, 2025
Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, inaugurated the Departmental Summit on ‘National Ayush Mission and Capacity Building in States’ at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi. The summit brought together policymakers, experts, and state representatives to strengthen Ayush integration into the national health framework.

Government’s Commitment to State-Specific Frameworks

Shri Jadhav highlighted the government’s commitment to building state-specific frameworks and comprehensive standard operating procedures (SOPs) for healthcare delivery. He emphasized that integrating Ayush with modern healthcare systems will ensure inclusive, affordable, and accessible services across India.

Since its inception in 2014, the National Ayush Mission (NAM) has advanced holistic healthcare by setting up 12,500 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, shifting the focus from OPD-based care to preventive and promotive healthcare services.

Ayurveda Day and Public Health Standards

The Minister announced that Ayurveda Day will be celebrated every year on September 23, with this year marking the 10th anniversary under the theme “Ayurveda for People and Planet.” He also noted the launch of the Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) for Ayush facilities in March 2024, a step towards uniformity in infrastructure, human resources, and quality assurance.

Institutional Initiatives and Digital Platforms

To strengthen institutional mechanisms, Shri Jadhav announced the operationalization of a Project Management Unit (PMU) at AIIA to support insurance coverage for Ayush treatments. He also inaugurated the ‘Ayurvidya Advanced Centre,’ a digital platform offering expert-led courses, webinars, and interactive sessions aimed at expanding Ayurveda education and professional development.

NITI Aayog’s Perspective

Dr. V.K. Paul, Member (Health), NITI Aayog, stressed that a healthy population is vital for achieving Viksit Bharat @2047. He emphasized increasing life expectancy from 71 to 85 years through integration of modern and traditional systems. Dr. Paul highlighted India’s progress in tackling diseases like tuberculosis, leprosy, and measles, while underlining the role of NAM, medical education, wellness tourism, and private sector participation in advancing Ayush.

‘Har Ghar Ayuryog’ for Better Health

Ayush Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha called for nationwide adoption of the ‘Har Ghar Ayuryog’ initiative to bring yoga and Ayurveda practices into every household. He noted that the two-day summit, structured around six sub-themes, will gather grassroots feedback and state-specific notes to strengthen the mission’s reach.

Collaborative Approach for National Health Goals

The summit emphasized collaboration between states, Union Territories, and central agencies to implement policies effectively. Senior officials presented their findings and recommendations to strengthen Ayush at grassroots levels, aiming to achieve the larger goal of “Swasth Bharat” as the foundation of “Viksit Bharat @2047.”
