National MYGS Awards to Honour Youth Leadership in Delhi

The Ministry of Panchayati Raj, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, will host the National Award Ceremony for the Model Youth Gram Sabha (MYGS) winners on 28th January 2026 in New Delhi. Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj, Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel, and Union Minister of State for Education, Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, will grace the event.
The ceremony aims to celebrate youth-led participative governance by acknowledging the achievements of over 28,000 students from 619 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and 200 Eklavya Model Residential Schools. These students participated in simulated Gram Sabhas and Panchayat proceedings across India, gaining hands-on experience of democratic processes.
The inaugural session, scheduled from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, will feature live mock Gram Sabha demonstrations by Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Una (Himachal Pradesh), and Eklavya Model Residential School, Kosambuda (Chhattisgarh). These demonstrations will highlight experiential learning of Panchayati Raj system practices, fostering civic engagement and governance skills among students.The award ceremony, commencing at 2:30 PM, will honour students and schools for their exemplary understanding of the three-tier Panchayati Raj system envisioned under the 73rd Constitutional Amendment. Around 900 participants, including students, teachers, elected representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions, and key stakeholders, are expected to attend.
During the event, a comprehensive compendium documenting the transformative journey of the MYGS initiative will be released. Senior officials from the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Department of School Education and Literacy, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, and Eklavya Model Residential Schools will also be present.The initiative reflects the government’s continued commitment to youth engagement in democratic processes and participative governance. By simulating real-life Gram Sabha meetings, MYGS enables students to grasp policy-making, civic responsibility, and leadership skills at the grassroots level.
