Navratri 2024 Day 2: Worship Maa Brahmacharini – Significance, Rituals, Auspicious Color, and Shubh Muhurat

RR Team, October 4, 2024October 4, 2024

Navratri 2024 began on Thursday, October 3, marking the start of the nine-day celebration devoted to the worship of Maa Durga and her nine avatars, collectively known as Navadurga. These forms are revered by Hindu devotees and include Maa Shailputri, Maa Brahmacharini, Maa Chandraghanta, Maa Kushmanda, Maa Skandamata, Maa Katyayani, Maa Kalaratri, Maa Mahagauri, and Maa Siddhidatri.

Who is Maa Brahmacharini? Significance of Worshipping Her

Maa Brahmacharini is honored on the second day of Sharadiya Navratri. She symbolizes devotion, penance, and virtue in her unmarried form, which is worshipped by devotees. Depicted as walking barefoot, she carries a jap mala (prayer beads) in her right hand and a kamandal (water pot) in her left hand.

According to mythology, after her incarnation as Kushmanda, Goddess Parvati was born as Brahmacharini at the home of Daksha Prajapati. She performed severe penance to marry Lord Shiva. It is said that her penance lasted thousands of years, during which she survived on minimal food—flowers, fruits, and later, even Bilva leaves—before completely renouncing food and water.

Maa Brahmacharini is associated with Lord Mangal, the giver of fortune. Worshipping her is believed to bring spiritual strength, self-discipline, and improved ethical conduct.

Navratri 2024 Day 2: Timing and Auspicious Color

The second day of Navratri falls on October 4. As per Drik Panchang, the Dwitiya Tithi lasts until 5:30 AM on October 5.

Shubh Muhurats for Day 2:
Brahma Muhurta: 4:38 AM to 5:27 AM
Abhijit Muhurta: 11:46 AM to 12:33 PM
Vijaya Muhurta: 2:07 PM to 2:55 PM

The auspicious color for Day 2 is green, which symbolizes nature, fertility, and peace. Wearing green on this day invokes growth and serenity.

Navratri 2024 Day 2: Puja Vidhi, Samagri, and Bhog

Devotees should begin the day early during Brahma Muhurta by bathing and cleansing the puja area with Gangajal. The family gathers to worship Maa Brahmacharini, offering jasmine flowers, rice, and sandalwood in a kalash (metal pot).

The idol of the goddess is bathed and adorned with jasmine flowers, roli, and kumkum. The deity is then given an abhishek with milk, curd, and honey. A special bhog of sugar is offered, symbolizing the sweetness of devotion.

Prayers, Mantras, and Stuti for Maa Brahmacharini

Prarthana:
Dadhana Kara Padmabhyamakshamala Kamandalu
Devi Prasidatu Mayi Brahmacharinyanuttama

Puja Mantra:
Om Devi Brahmacharinyai Namah

Stuti:
Ya Devi Sarvabhuteshu Maa Brahmacharini Rupena Samsthita
Namastasyai Namastasyai Namastasyai Namo Namah

By following the puja rituals and reciting these sacred mantras, devotees can seek the blessings of Maa Brahmacharini, invoking virtues of dedication and self-restraint in their lives.
