Navratri 2025 Day 7: Worship Maa Kalaratri in Orange

RR Team, September 29, 2025September 29, 2025
On the seventh day of Navratri 2025, devotees across India worship Maa Kalaratri, one of the fiercest forms of Goddess Durga. Known as the destroyer of evil and protector of her devotees, Maa Kalaratri is revered for her power to eliminate fear and negative energies. This day also marks the worship of the auspicious colour orange, which symbolizes energy, courage, and transformation.

Who is Maa Kalaratri?

Maa Kalaratri is the seventh form of the Navadurga. She is depicted with a dark complexion, unkempt hair, and four hands holding a sword, an iron hook, and performing the mudras of fearlessness and boon-giving. Her vahana (vehicle) is a donkey, which represents humility and service.

According to legend, she played a crucial role in defeating the demon Raktabeej, whose blood produced countless new demons each time it touched the ground. Maa Kalaratri drank his blood to prevent more demons from arising and ultimately destroyed him, symbolizing the victory over negative desires and destructive forces.

Significance of Worship

Devotees believe that praying to Maa Kalaratri removes fear, protects from evil influences, and instills courage to overcome challenges. Her worship is also associated with the awakening of the Sahasrara (crown chakra), leading to spiritual liberation. Maa Kalaratri is linked to planet Shani (Saturn), and rituals dedicated to her are believed to reduce the effects of Shani dosha.

Auspicious Colour of Day 7: Orange

Each day of Navratri is linked with a specific colour that reflects divine energy. For Day 7, the colour is orange. Wearing orange during worship is believed to bring positivity, warmth, and enthusiasm. The colour signifies transformation and the burning away of negativity, aligning with Maa Kalaratri’s powerful energy.

Rituals, Offerings, and Mantras

On this day, devotees offer jaggery, sesame seeds, and flowers to the goddess. They chant mantras like “Om Devi Kalaratryai Namah” and recite her aarti to seek protection and blessings. The worship rituals aim to invoke courage, destroy inner darkness, and receive the goddess’s grace for prosperity and peace.
