Who is Maa Katyayani?
According to Hindu scriptures, Maa Parvati assumed the form of Katyayani to destroy the demon Mahishasura. Born in the house of Sage Katya, she came to be known as Katyayani. She is considered the warrior aspect of Maa Durga. The goddess is depicted riding a lion and holding a lotus and sword in her left hands, while blessing devotees with her right hands in Abhaya and Varada Mudra. Maa Katyayani is also associated with the planet Brihaspati (Jupiter).

Devotees believe that offering prayers to Maa Katyayani helps overcome obstacles, removes fear, and instills inner strength. She is also revered by unmarried women seeking blessings for marriage. Her worship symbolizes victory of righteousness over evil forces and strengthens spiritual discipline.

Auspicious Colour for the Day
The colour associated with the sixth day of Navratri is grey. This shade symbolizes balanced emotions, humility, and stability. Wearing grey while worshipping Maa Katyayani is said to enhance grounded strength and inner calm.
Puja Rituals and Bhog
On this day, devotees rise early, take a holy bath, and prepare a clean space for worship. A diya is lit, and offerings such as shringar items, garlands, and vermillion are presented to Maa Katyayani. The traditional bhog includes meetha paan, five seasonal fruits, honey, and simple sweets. Performing Durga Saptashati Path and a hawan is also considered highly auspicious.
