NCL Empowers Homemakers as First Responders, Training 8,000 Women in Life-Saving Skills

Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has launched a groundbreaking initiative to transform homemakers into first responders. Recognizing the crucial role that housewives play in handling medical emergencies at home, NCL’s “First Aid Training Program for Homemakers” aims to equip 8,000 women with life-saving skills by June 2025. This ambitious program extends beyond workplace safety, fostering a community where first aid knowledge becomes a household necessity.

Since its launch on January 26, 2025, the program has already trained approximately 1,500 homemakers across different NCL project locations. By providing them with essential first aid skills, the initiative strengthens family welfare while also reducing the strain on medical professionals. Given that homemakers are often the first to respond to injuries, sudden illnesses, and other emergencies within their homes, the training is designed to instill confidence and practical knowledge, ensuring they can act swiftly and effectively when needed.

This large-scale community initiative is particularly significant in the coal mining regions, where access to immediate medical care can sometimes be challenging. The training covers essential first-aid techniques, including how to handle burns, cuts, choking, poisoning, minor injuries, heat-related ailments, and even life-saving procedures like cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Conducted by NCL’s in-house medical professionals, the sessions focus on hands-on learning, empowering participants with the skills needed to provide critical assistance before professional medical help arrives.

Beyond its medical benefits, the program underscores NCL’s commitment to community welfare and women’s empowerment. By equipping homemakers with the knowledge to protect their families and communities, NCL is not only addressing an essential healthcare need but also fostering a sense of confidence and self-reliance among women in the Singrauli region.
