Collaboration for Road and Rail Synergy
Under this MoU, NHAI and KRCL will coordinate to plan, identify, and implement projects of mutual interest. Key areas include the integrated development of National Highways and railway lines through initiatives such as rail-cum-road bridges, tunnels, multi-modal logistics parks, inter-modal hubs, and grade separators at critical intersections. The MoU also emphasizes the establishment of common utility corridors wherever feasible.
Expertise in Challenging Terrains
KRCL brings extensive experience in executing projects in difficult terrains, including slope stabilization and complex bridge and tunnel construction. The MoU outlines collaboration on safety audits, quality reviews, and capacity-building programs for NHAI personnel at KRCL’s training institute, ensuring enhanced project execution in challenging environments.
Technical Exchange and Innovation
Both organizations will share expertise on project management, engineering design, environmental management, and innovative construction methodologies. Collaborative research and development will focus on new construction materials and technologies, along with consultancy services for specific projects. This knowledge exchange aims to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and foster innovation in India’s infrastructure sector.
Optimizing Land and Connectivity
The MoU provides for joint utilization of underutilized land parcels along National Highway and Konkan Railway corridors for commercial development, logistics, and other infrastructure projects. It also aims to integrate first-mile and last-mile connectivity for freight and passenger movement, supporting the establishment of dedicated freight corridors to optimize goods transport nationwide.
Digital Integration and Smart Infrastructure
Advanced digital solutions will be adopted for project monitoring, traffic management, asset management, and smart infrastructure implementation. Data sharing between NHAI and KRCL will enhance operational planning, ensuring that road and rail networks function seamlessly in an integrated manner.
Governance and Implementation
A Joint Working Group (JWG) consisting of representatives from both NHAI and KRCL will oversee the identification of collaborative projects, feasibility studies, detailed project proposals, and monitoring of progress. The MoU is set for an initial five-year term, highlighting the long-term commitment of both agencies to coordinated infrastructure development.
