NIA arrests four more in Delhi Red Fort blast total six held

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday arrested four more prime accused in the November 10 car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort, bringing the total number of people in custody to six as the probe into one of the capital’s deadliest recent attacks intensifies.

Who were arrested

The four individuals taken into NIA custody were identified as Dr Muzammil Shakeel Ganai of Pulwama (Jammu & Kashmir), Dr Adeel Ahmed Rather of Anantnag (Jammu & Kashmir), Dr Shaheen Saeed of Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) and Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay of Shopian (Jammu & Kashmir). Authorities said three are medical professionals and one is a religious preacher.

From local custody to NIA custody

The accused were produced before the Patiala House Court in Delhi and subsequently handed over to the NIA after warrants and custody orders, with the agency taking them into its custody in Srinagar as part of coordinated action across states. The court granted the NIA extended custody to continue questioning and evidence-gathering.

Case background and fatalities

The blast occurred on November 10 near the Red Fort metro station and killed at least 15 people, with several more injured. Initial investigations suggested a car loaded with explosives detonated in slow-moving traffic; authorities later treated the incident as a terrorist act and transferred the probe to the NIA.

Investigators probe an alleged ‘white-collar’ module

Investigators described the arrests as linked to an alleged ‘white-collar’ terror module that used educated and professional individuals to plan and support the attack. Law enforcement agencies have said the network extended across Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, and that leads included material and logistical recoveries in multiple locations.

Evidence and leads

During searches connected to the probe, police discovered a major haul of explosives and related material. The investigation reportedly traced leads to an educational institute in Haryana and to individuals who allegedly supplied or transported explosive components. The NIA is continuing forensic and digital forensics analysis to map out the full conspiracy.

Reactions and security response

The blast prompted heightened security across national monuments, transit hubs and critical infrastructure. Political leaders condemned the attack and urged a swift, evidence-based investigation. Civil liberties groups and community leaders have also expressed concern about profiling and the need to protect civil rights while ensuring security.

What happens next

The NIA has custody of the newly arrested accused and is expected to press charges once its investigation yields sufficient material. Courts will consider remand applications and evidence submissions as the agency seeks to establish the roles played by each detainee in planning, logistics or execution.
