NIA Jaipur to be Global Centre of Excellence in Ayurveda

Union Minister of Ayush, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, chaired the second meeting of the Society of the National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA), Jaipur, in New Delhi. The meeting reaffirmed the vision of developing NIA as a Global Centre of Excellence in Ayurveda, focusing on research, innovation, education, and public health leadership.

A Vision for Global Leadership in Ayurveda

During his address, Shri Jadhav said the goal is not only to strengthen NIA but also to inspire Ayurvedic institutions across India and abroad. He emphasized that the meeting was more than an administrative exercise. Instead, it was a strategic platform to chart a clear roadmap for the future of Ayurveda on the global stage.

He added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Ayush sector has witnessed historic growth. From the establishment of the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in India to the rise of Ayurveda’s global recognition, the sector has made remarkable strides in recent years.

NIA’s Achievements: Setting Benchmarks in Ayurveda

The National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur, has consistently set high standards in education, research, and healthcare. Some of its remarkable achievements include:

  • India’s first Deemed University in the Ayush sector.
  • Treatment of over 4 lakh OPD patients and 25,000+ IPD patients every year.
  • Conducting free healthcare camps in 12 districts under SC, SP, and STP schemes.
  • A GMP-certified pharmacy that produces more than 100 Ayurvedic medicines.
  • Accolades like NAAC ‘A’ Grade, NABH, and NABL certifications.
  • Over 15 countries represented by students studying Ayurveda at NIA.
  • Declared India’s Best Ayurvedic Institution by NCISM.
  • International collaborations and Guinness World Record achievements.

These achievements highlight NIA’s role as a pioneering institution that combines tradition with modern standards.

Healthcare for Millions

NIA is not just an academic hub but also a trusted healthcare provider. With more than 4 lakh OPD patients and 25,000 IPD patients treated annually, it plays a central role in delivering quality Ayurvedic healthcare. Its outreach programs and free medical camps ensure that underserved communities also benefit from traditional medicine.

Education with a Global Outlook

Students from 15 countries are currently pursuing education at NIA. This makes it a truly international institution. With its modernized curriculum, the institute blends classical Ayurvedic texts with contemporary healthcare knowledge. Such an approach prepares students to meet global health challenges while preserving India’s traditional wisdom.

Ayush Sector Under PM Modi’s Leadership

Shri Jadhav credited Prime Minister Modi for the sector’s rapid progress. The Prime Minister’s vision has led to international recognition of Ayurveda and traditional medicine. The WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine, established in India, is a testimony to this recognition. It demonstrates how India’s knowledge systems are being embraced with trust across the world.

Future Roadmap for NIA

In his remarks, the Minister stressed the importance of future-ready reforms. He outlined priorities for:

  • Globally benchmarked research programs.
  • Faculty development and international training opportunities.
  • Upgraded infrastructure with state-of-the-art facilities.
  • Modernized curriculum integrating research and innovation.
  • Stronger community outreach and rural healthcare initiatives.

He assured that the Ministry of Ayush will provide full support to ensure NIA reaches its goal of becoming a Global Centre of Excellence in Ayurveda.

Global Collaborations and Recognition

NIA has expanded its global profile through international partnerships. It has engaged in academic collaborations, joint research projects, and cultural exchange programs. Its Guinness World Record achievements further highlight its innovative initiatives. Such global engagement is crucial as Ayurveda gains prominence as an alternative and complementary system of medicine worldwide.

Symbol of India’s Knowledge Leadership

The development of NIA Jaipur reflects India’s growing role as a knowledge leader in traditional medicine. The institute not only provides healthcare and education but also represents India’s cultural heritage on the world stage. With strong government backing, it is poised to become a central hub for Ayurveda research, innovation, and global outreach.
