In a landmark moment for Goa’s tourism and infrastructure development, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, is set to perform the groundbreaking ceremony for the much-anticipated Observatory Towers atop the New Zuari Bridge on Friday, 23rd May 2025. The event marks the beginning of a visionary project that reflects the aspirations of a modern India while honoring the cultural and natural beauty of Goa.
This ambitious project has come to life through the unwavering support and vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the pioneering efforts of Shri Gadkari himself, and the dedicated leadership of Goa’s Chief Minister, Shri Pramod Sawant. It is a shining example of collaborative governance aimed at transforming the nation’s tourism potential.
Estimated to cost ₹270.07 crore, the Observatory Towers will be constructed over five years. Inspired by the elegance of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, these towers are poised to become an iconic tourist attraction, offering a unique blend of architecture, leisure, and cultural experience. Each tower will stand 125 metres tall, built strategically on pile cap foundations between the bridge pylons. The structure will feature panoramic capsule lifts, a revolving restaurant, an art gallery, and spacious viewing decks to create a truly immersive experience for visitors.
What makes this initiative especially commendable is its implementation under the DBFOT (Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer) model, which ensures that the project will place no financial burden on the Government. The selected concessionaire will not only construct the towers but also manage them for a 50-year concession period—bringing both innovation and sustainability into the heart of the project.
A wide walkway bridge, 7.5 metres in carriage width, will be developed on either side of the marine stretch of the New Zuari Bridge, providing seamless pedestrian access. Thoughtfully designed parking areas on both ends of the bridge will offer added convenience to tourists and locals alike.
Beyond its striking design and modern features, the Observatory Towers project carries a deeper promise—it is expected to energize the Goan economy by creating numerous direct and indirect employment opportunities. By stimulating growth in sectors like hospitality, retail, and transportation, the project will empower local communities and nurture entrepreneurship.
As Goa prepares to welcome this new landmark, the Observatory Towers stand as a symbol of India’s growing focus on infrastructure-driven development. More than just a tourist spot, it will become a beacon of national pride, putting Goa firmly on the international map for architectural tourism and immersive travel experiences.
