Nitish Kumar’s Folded Hands Moment Sparks Bihar Buzz

Nitish Kumar’s Folded Hands Moment Sparks Bihar Election As Bihar gears up for its assembly elections later this year, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has once again captured public attention with a brief but unusual gesture during a virtual event with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The folded hands moment, lasting nearly a minute, has gone viral and triggered fresh speculation regarding his public conduct and political strategy.

Viral Gesture at Kaushal Deekshant Samaroh 2025

The incident occurred during the Kaushal Deekshant Samaroh 2025, a skill convocation ceremony for ITI toppers across India. While PM Modi addressed the students and launched several initiatives, Kumar remained seated with his hands folded, occasionally shaking them and smiling briefly. His sideways glances and subtle movements drew immediate attention online.

The video clip, particularly between 27:11 and 27:50 minutes, quickly circulated on social media, sparking discussions and memes about his unusual demeanor. Opposition parties, particularly the RJD, highlighted these gestures to question Kumar’s health and focus during public events.

Past Controversies and Public Scrutiny

This is not the first time Kumar’s public behavior has drawn criticism. Earlier incidents include laughing during the national anthem at a Patna event, placing his arm on a woman’s shoulder at a function, and placing a sapling on an official’s head during a public program. Each event prompted media scrutiny and opposition commentary on his fitness and conduct.

Despite controversies, Kumar has remained politically active, recently meeting over 400 JD(U) workers in Patna to strategize for the upcoming polls. Speculation also continues about the possible political entry of his son, Nishant Kumar, although the Chief Minister has not commented on this.

PM Modi Praises Bihar’s Progress

During the same event, Prime Minister Modi lauded the NDA-led Bihar government for improving education and employment sectors. He contrasted the current administration’s achievements with what he described as the “devastated” state during previous RJD rule. Modi inaugurated several youth-focused projects worth over Rs 62,000 crore, including the PM-SETU scheme to upgrade 1,000 ITIs nationwide, Bihar’s revamped Student Credit Card, and Self-Help Allowance programs.

The Prime Minister also inaugurated the Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur Skill University and dedicated the new NIT Patna Bihta campus. He emphasized the importance of preserving the legacy of OBC icon Karpoori Thakur, urging vigilance against attempts to “steal” it.

Political Implications Ahead of Bihar Polls

Nitish Kumar’s folded hands gesture has reignited discussions on his public image and political strategy as Bihar heads to the polls. Analysts suggest that subtle cues like these could influence public perception, especially in a state where leadership credibility is closely scrutinized. Meanwhile, the NDA government continues to highlight its achievements in education, employment, and skill development to consolidate voter support.
