No Planetarium Proposal Yet for Bihar: Govt

Parliament Question: Planetarium or Space Science Centre in Bihar

As of now, there are no proposals to establish a modern Planetarium or Space Science Centre in Bihar. However, the Department has assured that it will respond positively and support such initiatives if proposals are received from the concerned stakeholder(s).Recently, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has launched several educational outreach programs across various states, including Bihar, to inspire and train students in space science and technology. These initiatives aim to promote science and space education throughout Bihar.Notable programs include:
  • YUVIKA – Young Scientist Programme
  • Space Tutors
  • Space on Wheels – a mobile exhibition initiative

The “Space on Wheels” initiative is designed to bring the wonders of space exploration directly to students and communities, even in remote areas. This mobile exhibition has helped make science accessible and engaging through interactive displays and educational content.

In recent events held in Telangana, Jharkhand, and Bihar, ISRO demonstrated its commitment to spreading awareness and curiosity about space science. Specifically, in Jharkhand and Bihar, the Space on Wheels program reached approximately 30,000 individuals across 20 locations, including villages, towns, and educational institutions. This ensured that space education transcends geographical barriers and reaches a wider audience.

This information was provided by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences, MoS PMO, MoS Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Department of Atomic Energy and Department of Space, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
