PM Modi was addressing Indian-Americans, discussing India’s progress and the strengthening of India-U.S. relations when the incident occurred.
Law enforcement also removed provocative propaganda near the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, including banners featuring crosshairs aimed at PM Modi’s face, attributed to the Khalistani group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ).
Sources reported that the propaganda aimed to show opposition to the Indian government. The breach of designated zones raised concerns, particularly when foreign leaders visit. However, authorities underscored that only a small fraction of the Sikh community is associated with Khalistan supporters, who attempt to influence U.S. politics by portraying themselves as a minority with significant voting power.
Despite the disruption, U.S. officials emphasized their commitment to maintaining strong diplomatic relations with India, ensuring full security for PM Modi throughout the event.
