Only Two Nipah Virus Cases Reported in West Bengal Since Dec 2025

Minimal Nipah Cases in West Bengal

The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed that only two cases of Nipah Virus Disease (NiVD) have been reported in West Bengal since December 2025. Reports circulating in media claiming higher numbers have been clarified as inaccurate and speculative.

Contact Tracing and Public Health Measures

Following the confirmation of the two cases, authorities in West Bengal and the Government of India promptly initiated comprehensive public health measures. A total of 196 individuals who were in contact with the confirmed patients were traced, monitored, and tested. All contacts have been found asymptomatic and tested negative for the virus.

Surveillance and Containment Efforts

Enhanced surveillance, laboratory testing, and field investigations were carried out through coordinated efforts between central and state health agencies. These timely interventions ensured containment of the virus and no additional cases have been reported.

Ongoing Monitoring and Public Advisory

The situation continues to be closely monitored by health authorities. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has urged the public and media to rely only on verified information released by official sources and refrain from spreading unverified reports to avoid unnecessary panic.
