Op Sindoor: 23 Made-in-India Apps Power Indian Army

During Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army leveraged 23 indigenous applications to enhance intelligence, surveillance, and logistics operations. These apps, powered by artificial intelligence, allowed commanders to access real-time battlefield data, assess threats, and make precise operational decisions against terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Role of AI and Data Integration

Lieutenant General Rajiv Kumar Sahni, DG EME and former head of DG Information Systems, explained that the Info Systems vertical integrated multi-source data using AI. This enabled real-time threat assessment, internal analysis, multi-sensor fusion, and generation of heat maps in the Joint Operational Control Centre. Commanders could then prioritize activities and target threats with greater precision.

Specialized Applications

Each application had a specific function and was accessible to officers on a need-to-know basis. The Application for Electronic Intelligence Collation helped locate enemy sensors quickly, while AI-powered Meteorological Reporting Systems provided extended-range weather data to improve strike accuracy. The Trinetra System, integrated with Project Sanjay, created a unified operational and intelligence picture at tactical and operational levels, improving decision-making and situational awareness.

Comprehensive AI Approach

Lt Gen Sahni emphasized that these developments align with the India AI Mission. While acknowledging global AI capabilities, he stressed that the Indian Army is fully prepared and continuously developing robust, indigenous AI technologies to maintain national security.

Significance of Operation Sindoor

Operation Sindoor was a decisive response to the Pahalgam terror attack. Using AI-driven applications, the military efficiently monitored multiple sites and executed precision strikes on terror installations. The operation highlights India’s growing reliance on domestic defense technologies and underscores the strategic value of integrating AI in military operations.
