Swift Response During Heightened Maritime Sensitivity
Highlighting the execution of Operation Sindoor, the Defence Minister said the Indian Coast Guard responded quickly and firmly by deploying strategic assets in advance, enhancing surveillance along the western coastline, and maintaining high alertness across coastal and creek areas.
He described the ICG as a “wall of trust” guarding India’s maritime frontiers, stating that its actions during the operation exemplified true service to the nation.
ICG’s Expanding Role in National Security
Praising the force for consistently fulfilling its responsibilities with efficiency, Rajnath Singh noted that the Indian Coast Guard plays a vital role in preventing terrorism, arms trafficking, human trafficking, and other illegal activities at sea.
He said that in an era marked by global instability and growing maritime threats, the responsibilities of the ICG have increased significantly. Its contribution in combating drug trafficking, piracy, illegal trade, and marine pollution has become increasingly decisive.
Over 11,800 Lives Saved at Sea
The Defence Minister highlighted that the Indian Coast Guard has saved more than 11,800 lives at sea since its inception, reflecting its courage, professionalism, and humanitarian commitment.
He also recalled the force’s prompt response during cyclones, maritime accidents, and humanitarian missions such as Operation Sagar Bandhu, underscoring its role as a first responder during disasters.
One of the Strongest Pillars of National Security
Rajnath Singh termed the Indian Coast Guard one of the strongest pillars of national security, noting that it has transformed into a modern and powerful force equipped with advanced ships, helicopters, aircraft, and cutting-edge technologies.
He said the ICG’s service enables India to pursue its maritime interests with confidence and plan for blue economy initiatives, maritime security, and coastal development with clarity.
Visionary Roadmap for Viksit Bharat @ 2047
Calling upon the force to look ahead, the Defence Minister urged the Indian Coast Guard to prepare a clear, well-targeted, and visionary roadmap for the next 25 years in line with the national goal of Viksit Bharat @ 2047.
He emphasised that the roadmap should address manpower planning, capability development, and organisational reforms to make the force more agile, responsive, and future-ready.
Government Reaffirms Full Support
Reiterating that national security remains a top priority for the government, Rajnath Singh assured full support from the Ministry of Defence in strengthening the Indian Coast Guard.
He said technologically empowering the ICG, enhancing its operational capabilities, and preparing it for future challenges are among the government’s key priorities.
Golden Jubilee Celebrations
During the event, the Raksha Mantri unveiled the Swarnim Jayanti Logo symbolising 50 years of unwavering vigilance, maritime security, and humanitarian service. He also released a commemorative stamp marking the golden jubilee of the Indian Coast Guard.
A specially curated film showcasing the organisation’s evolution, operational excellence, and commitment to environmental protection was also screened.
Honouring Service and Sacrifice
The Defence Minister interacted with serving officers, veterans, and dignitaries during a high tea event, acknowledging their dedication and contributions.
As part of the celebrations, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at the National War Memorial to honour Coast Guard personnel who laid down their lives in service to the nation.
