Operation Sindoor Boosts Demand for Indian Defence Tech

RR Team, July 8, 2025July 7, 2025

Operation Sindoor: India’s Defence Power on Global Display

India’s defence sector is moving fast. At the Controllers’ Conference 2025, Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh shared a bold vision. He spoke about quicker decisions, stronger systems, and a clear focus on Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance).

His key message was loud and clear:
India’s defence is not just about safety—it’s about strength and opportunity.

Operation Sindoor: A Turning Point for Indigenous Power

The biggest moment of the event was the mention of Operation Sindoor.

This mission proved the strength of indigenous military equipment in real combat. It showed the bravery of Indian forces and the success of Made-in-India defence systems.

Rajnath Singh said,

“The valour displayed and the demonstration of domestic equipment has further increased global demand.”

India, once a buyer of weapons, is now a builder of defence technology. And the world is watching closely.

From Controllers to Enablers: DAD’s New Role

The Defence Accounts Department (DAD) plays a key role in keeping the Armed Forces financially ready. But Rajnath Singh wants more.

He called on DAD to stop being controllers and become facilitators.

As the private sector steps in, DAD must enable faster procurement, smoother funding, and support for innovation. Quick decisions mean faster action on the battlefield.

Defence Budgets Are Economic Investments

In 2024, global defence spending touched $2.7 trillion (Source: SIPRI). India sees this as a chance to lead, not just compete.

Rajnath Singh explained,

“Defence budgets are no longer just expenses. They are economic investments with multiplier effects.”

Each rupee spent builds national security and fuels industry growth. It also creates more jobs across the country.

India Now Builds What It Used to Buy

Thanks to PM Narendra Modi’s leadership, India now produces what it once imported.

Engines, weapons, and advanced platforms are being made at home.

Rajnath Singh said,

“This journey must begin with the hands of Indians.”

This is the core of Make in India, Make for the World.

Reforms That Build Trust

Reforms in defence are speeding up. For the first time, key systems will be acquired through the capital procurement route.

This is a major shift. But it needs timely funding, especially for startups, MSMEs, and private innovators.

So far, over ₹2 lakh crore worth of defence purchases have been made through GeM (Government e-Marketplace), boosting transparency.

SPARSH: The Digital Backbone for Veterans

SPARSH is now India’s key pension platform for defence veterans. It serves over 32 lakh pensioners.

It’s fast, faceless, and transparent.

Rajnath Singh proudly said,

“Crores are disbursed every month. This is our gratitude in action.”

He reminded everyone: Caring for veterans is a duty—not a favour.

Peacetime Is an Illusion

“Peacetime is nothing but an illusion,” warned the Raksha Mantri.

Even in calm times, systems must stay ready. Sudden shifts—global or local—can demand instant mobilisation.

That’s why defence finance must remain agile, efficient, and responsive at all times.

Digital Defence Finance Is the Future

India is entering a new era of digital defence finance.

Upcoming tools include:

  • Comprehensive Pay System

  • Centralised Database Management

  • Vision Document on Defence Economics

These platforms will help monitor spending, approve projects faster, and support real-time decisions.

Singh urged internal reforms too.

“Improvements made through internal evaluation create living organisations,” he said.

A Culture of Speed: Alert, Agile, Adaptive

The department’s new motto—Alert, Agile, Adaptive—is more than a slogan.

It reflects the urgency, responsibility, and precision needed in today’s defence ecosystem.

Rajnath Singh warned,

“Even a small financial error can delay supplies to our soldiers.”

In defence, financial readiness equals operational readiness.

RDI Scheme: India’s Investment in Innovation

The newly launched Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Scheme, worth ₹1 lakh crore, is India’s biggest defence innovation fund.

The DAD will play a crucial role in ensuring on-time fund flow to these strategic projects.

This capital route needs strong coordination. And DAD must rise to the challenge.

Recognising Discipline and Dedication

The Raksha Mantri praised the Defence Secretary and CGDA for 100% utilisation of the capital budget in the previous year.

He urged departments to keep this up.

Efficiency and accountability are now key. Every decision must support national security, industry growth, and self-reliance.

Conclusion: India’s Defence is Driving Growth

Rajnath Singh sent a clear message.

India’s defence is no longer just a shield—it is now a spear.

With Operation Sindoor, the launch of SPARSH, and a bold new RDI vision, India is building a defence sector that’s ready for the future.

Backed by reform, driven by technology, and powered by Aatmanirbharta,
India is ready to lead the world in defence innovation.
