Public Nominations Invited for People’s Padma
The Government of India has opened nominations for the prestigious Padma Awards 2026. The process began on March 15, 2025, and will close on July 31, 2025. The awards will be announced on the eve of Republic Day 2026.
Nominations can only be submitted online through the official Rashtriya Puraskar Portal. Individuals from all walks of life are encouraged to nominate themselves or others who have made outstanding contributions to society.

What Are the Padma Awards?

The Padma Awards — Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri — are among India’s highest civilian honours. Instituted in 1954, they recognize excellence and distinguished service in fields such as:
- Art, Literature and Education
- Sports
- Medicine
- Science and Engineering
- Social Work and Public Affairs
- Trade and Industry
- Civil Service
While most government servants are not eligible, exceptions are made for Doctors and Scientists.
Transforming to “People’s Padma”
In recent years, the government has sought to make the awards more inclusive and representative. The goal is to identify unsung heroes — individuals doing selfless work, especially from:
- Weaker sections of society
- Women achievers
- SC/ST communities
- Persons with disabilities (Divyangjans)
This initiative aligns with the vision of a more equitable and appreciative India, where merit is recognized beyond fame or position.
How to Nominate
To nominate someone, visit the official portal and fill out the form with:
- Personal and professional details of the nominee
- A detailed citation (up to 800 words)
- Evidence of exceptional achievements or service
All nominations must comply with the Padma Awards guidelines. Citizens can also visit the Ministry of Home Affairs website for more details under the “Awards and Medals” section.
Recognizing India’s Unsung Heroes
Each year, awardees are selected through a transparent and merit-based process. Many past recipients include grassroots activists, tribal artists, teachers in remote villages, and social workers with decades of impact.
By nominating such individuals, citizens contribute to building an India that values quiet service and extraordinary contributions over public fame.
Let us take this opportunity to honour those who truly deserve recognition. Nominations are open till July 31, 2025. Don’t miss the chance to be part of this national tribute to excellence.
