Paradip Port Sets Record with 14.44 MMT Cargo in January 2026

Paradip Port Authority (PPA) has commenced 2026 on a strong note by achieving its highest-ever cargo handling for the month of January. The Odisha-based major port handled 14.44 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo during the month, surpassing its previous January record of 14.32 MMT set in 2024.
This milestone underscores Paradip Port’s growing importance in India’s maritime ecosystem and highlights its ability to efficiently manage rising trade volumes amid evolving logistics demands.

Operational Excellence Drives Growth

The record-breaking performance is the result of sustained infrastructure upgrades, enhanced mechanisation, and improved coordination among terminals, port users, and logistics partners. Over the years, Paradip Port has invested heavily in modernising its cargo-handling systems to improve turnaround time and efficiency.

Officials noted that streamlined processes and real-time operational planning played a key role in ensuring uninterrupted cargo movement throughout the month.

Workforce and Stakeholder Contribution

The steady rise in cargo volumes also reflects the dedication and resilience of the port’s workforce. Officers, employees, contractual staff, and allied stakeholders worked in close coordination to maintain smooth operations despite increasing traffic and logistical complexity.

The Port Authority credited collective teamwork as a major factor behind achieving the January milestone.

Leadership and Strategic Vision

Shri P. L. Haranadh, Chairman of Paradip Port Authority, attributed the achievement to the strategic guidance of Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal and the consistent efforts of the entire port community.

He said the focus on modernisation, capacity expansion, and operational excellence continues to yield tangible results for the port and the nation.

Supporting India’s Economic Growth

Paradip Port plays a crucial role in facilitating the movement of key commodities and supporting India’s industrial and economic growth. Its strong January performance sets a positive tone for the rest of the year.

With continued emphasis on efficiency and sustainability, the port is steadily progressing towards its goal of becoming a world-class mega port.
