In a momentous step towards modernizing infrastructure and fulfilling a long-standing aspiration of the people of Bihar, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the new terminal building at Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport in Patna. Developed at a cost of ₹1,200 crore, the state-of-the-art facility now stands as a testament to the region’s progress and India’s commitment to inclusive development. Designed to accommodate one crore passengers annually and 3,000 during peak hours, the terminal blends advanced technology with the cultural essence of Bihar, incorporating Mithila art and architectural elements inspired by Nalanda Mahavihara.
The Prime Minister, while addressing the public at Karakat in Rohtas district, reflected on Bihar’s transformation, recalling a time when Patna was the state’s only airport. Now, with the Darbhanga Airport operational and offering flights to major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, the aviation landscape of Bihar is rapidly evolving. The inauguration of Patna’s upgraded terminal represents not just the fulfillment of a civic demand, but a powerful symbol of what sustained public will and national leadership can achieve.
Accompanied by key dignitaries including Bihar Governor Shri Arif Mohammad Khan, Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar, and Civil Aviation Minister Shri Ram Mohan Naidu, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for a new Civil Enclave at Bihta, located approximately 35 kilometers from Patna. This ₹1,413 crore project envisions a terminal covering 68,000 square meters, capable of handling 50 lakh passengers each year. The Bihta terminal’s design draws inspiration from the grandeur of the Mauryan and Gupta eras and will feature sustainable amenities such as a sewage treatment plant and eco-friendly infrastructure aimed at achieving a 5-star GRIHA rating.
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu described the inauguration as a proud day for Bihar, emphasizing that the new terminal is more than just infrastructure—it is a gateway to opportunity, employment, tourism, and regional pride.
