Patna: The Patna police uncovered burned currency notes worth approximately ₹2.75 lakh in ₹100 and ₹500 denominations, along with NEET and NEET-PG admit cards, from a hostel room at Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) late Wednesday night.
An MBBS OMR sheet belonging to Aryabhatta Knowledge University and a liquor bottle were also recovered during the search of a ground-floor room in the Chanakya Hostel. PMCH principal Dr. Vidyapati Choudhary filed an FIR at the Pirbahore police station on Thursday. Police revealed that the occupant of the room, Dr. Ajay Singh, a postgraduate pass-out, has been absconding since the recovery of the burned notes and documents.
Room Illegally Occupied by Accused
The discovery was made following a fire in room 42B on the second floor of the hostel late Tuesday night. According to Pirbahore SHO Abdul Halim, the documents and notes appeared to have been burned during the fire and later dumped in the ground-floor room. Dr. Singh, who illegally occupied the caretaker’s room, was also involved in a separate incident on Wednesday.
At around 5:30 PM on Wednesday, Dr. Singh reported being assaulted by junior students and locked in a sixth-floor room. The police intervened but no formal complaint was filed by Dr. Singh.
Hostel Warden Confirms Irregularities
Hostel warden Dr. Birendra confirmed the illegal occupation of rooms by Dr. Singh. “The caretaker informed me about the fight and the recovery of burned notes and documents. I reported the matter to the police,” he said. Dr. Singh, who completed his postgraduate studies last year and hails from Samastipur, had occupied multiple rooms. Notices for vacating these rooms were issued but not enforced by the administration.
This case highlights the challenges of managing hostel premises and the need for stricter enforcement of rules to prevent unauthorized occupancy and related incidents.
