PM Modi Announces Ex-Gratia After Sirmaur Bus Tragedy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives caused by a bus mishap in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh. The accident, which occurred in the hilly terrain of the state, has left several families grieving and highlighted once again the risks associated with road travel in mountainous regions.
Acknowledging the gravity of the incident, the Prime Minister announced financial assistance from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to support the families of the victims and those injured. His message of condolence and relief was shared through the official PMO India handle on social media platform X.

Ex-Gratia Assistance Announced

As per the announcement, an ex-gratia amount of ₹2 lakh will be provided from the PMNRF to the next of kin of each person who lost their life in the accident. In addition, ₹50,000 will be extended to those who sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the financial assistance is intended to offer immediate relief to the affected families during this difficult period. Such support, though unable to compensate for the loss of life, plays a crucial role in addressing urgent needs following sudden tragedies.

PM’s Message of Condolence

In his message, the Prime Minister conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured. The PMO India post stated that the loss of lives in the Sirmaur bus mishap was “extremely saddening” and assured that the central government stands with those affected.

Such expressions of solidarity from the nation’s leadership often provide moral support to families and communities coping with the aftermath of fatal accidents, particularly in remote and rural regions.

Accident Highlights Hill Road Challenges

Himachal Pradesh, known for its picturesque landscapes, also faces recurring challenges related to road safety due to steep slopes, narrow roads, and unpredictable weather conditions. Bus accidents in hill districts such as Sirmaur underline the urgent need for enhanced safety measures and infrastructure improvements.

Authorities regularly stress the importance of vehicle fitness, trained drivers, and strict adherence to safety norms to reduce the frequency of such incidents. Investigations into the cause of the mishap are expected to guide further preventive steps.

Role of PMNRF in Disaster Relief

The Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund has historically played a significant role in extending immediate assistance to victims of natural disasters and major accidents across India. Contributions from citizens and organizations enable swift disbursal of aid during emergencies.

Nation Stands With Himachal Pradesh

Messages of condolence and support have poured in from across the country following news of the accident. The tragedy has once again drawn attention to the need for coordinated efforts between central and state authorities to enhance road safety in vulnerable regions.

As rescue and medical teams continue their work, the focus remains on ensuring proper care for the injured and timely assistance to the families of the deceased. The Prime Minister’s announcement of ex-gratia aid underscores the government’s commitment to standing by citizens in times of crisis.
