PM Modi Condoles Victims of Dhaka Air Crash

RR Team, July 22, 2025July 21, 2025

New Delhi, July 22, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic air crash that occurred in Dhaka, Bangladesh, earlier today. The devastating incident has claimed several lives, including many young students, leaving both nations in mourning.

India Stands in Solidarity with Bangladesh

In a heartfelt message shared on X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Modi conveyed India’s condolences and assured Bangladesh of full support. He wrote:

“Deeply shocked and saddened at the loss of lives, many of them young students, in a tragic air crash in Dhaka. Our hearts go out to the bereaved families. We pray for the swift recovery of those injured. India stands in solidarity with Bangladesh and is ready to extend all possible support and assistance.”

The Prime Minister’s message reflects the spirit of friendship and neighborly compassion that has long defined the India-Bangladesh relationship.

A Tragic Day in Dhaka

The air crash occurred earlier on July 21, 2025, when a private chartered aircraft reportedly malfunctioned while attempting to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Initial reports indicate the aircraft carried several students, teachers, and crew members. Local authorities confirmed that at least 16 students, 2 teachers, and the pilot lost their lives in the crash.

The crash site near a college campus has added to the tragedy, with families grieving the sudden loss of their children and educators. Emergency services were deployed quickly, and rescue operations are still underway.

Global Reactions and Support

Messages of grief and solidarity have poured in from across the world. Indian leaders, diplomats, and citizens have extended condolences to the people of Bangladesh. n her brief statement, she described the day as one of the darkest in recent memory for the nation.

PM Modi’s Message Resonates Across Borders

Prime Minister Modi’s message has been widely appreciated by citizens in both countries. Social media platforms were flooded with responses thanking him for his compassion and commitment to international solidarity. His words brought comfort not only to grieving families but also to a shaken South Asian region.

This is not the first time India has stepped forward during crises in neighboring countries. From the 2015 Nepal earthquake to Sri Lanka’s recent economic crisis, India has consistently provided humanitarian aid and support.

Past India-Bangladesh Cooperation in Emergencies

India and Bangladesh share strong diplomatic ties and a rich history of cooperation. In past emergencies, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters, India has extended medical aid, vaccines, and disaster relief to Bangladesh. This enduring partnership is a cornerstone of regional peace and mutual growth.

Today’s tragedy, though heartbreaking, reinforces the strength of that bond. PM Modi’s assurance of support is not just symbolic—it signals India’s readiness to offer resources, expertise, and compassion during a time of profound grief.

India’s Humanitarian Approach in the Region

India’s “Neighbourhood First” policy under PM Modi has emphasized regional partnerships based on empathy and shared prosperity. Whether it’s through Operation Dost in Turkey or relief missions in the Maldives and Afghanistan, India has shown global leadership in crisis response.

This latest gesture toward Bangladesh is a continuation of that policy—where diplomacy meets humanity. It underlines India’s role as a trusted and responsible regional power.

A Nation in Mourning

In Bangladesh, national mourning has been declared. Educational institutions have announced closures for reflection and tribute. Memorials and candlelight vigils are being planned in Dhaka and across the country to honor the young lives lost in the crash.

International organizations, including UNESCO and UNICEF, have also extended condolences, especially in light of the student casualties.

Conclusion: Hope Amidst Tragedy

As Bangladesh grieves this immense loss, India’s message of support offers a beacon of solidarity and comfort. PM Modi’s heartfelt condolences echo the emotions of millions who stand united in grief.

In these difficult times, shared humanity transcends borders. And India’s compassionate response is a reminder that even in the darkest moments, regional unity and goodwill can light the way forward.
