PM Modi Congratulates ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 Champions

RR Team, November 7, 2025November 7, 2025
New Delhi, November 7, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 champions at his residence, celebrating India’s historic victory over South Africa in the finals.

PM Modi Praises Team’s Determination and Spirit

Prime Minister Modi congratulated the players for their exceptional performance and resilience throughout the tournament. He said the victory reflects the strength, confidence, and unity of India’s daughters who continue to make the nation proud on global platforms.

Describing cricket as an emotion deeply rooted in Indian society, the Prime Minister noted that the success of the women’s team has inspired millions across the country. He praised their ability to rise after setbacks, emphasizing that “a true champion is defined by how they bounce back after a fall.”

Players Share Emotional Journey and Gratitude

Team captain Harmanpreet Kaur expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister, recalling how his encouragement after the 2017 loss motivated them to persevere and ultimately lift the trophy. “We finally brought home what we dreamed of, and meeting the Prime Minister doubles our happiness,” she said.

Smriti Mandhana shared that the Prime Minister’s advice on handling expectations had guided the team over the years. She described how women athletes across sectors from ISRO missions to sports draw motivation from his words and leadership.

Jemimah Rodrigues highlighted the team’s unity and mental strength, stating, “This team is special because we stood together in both victory and defeat.” Other players, including Sneh Rana, Shafali Verma, Richa Ghosh, and Radha Yadav, echoed similar sentiments, calling the journey an unforgettable chapter in women’s cricket.

Stories of Inspiration Beyond the Field

Many players shared personal anecdotes during the interaction. Deepti Sharma spoke about her faith and discipline, while Kranti Gaud recalled her humble beginnings and how her brother’s dream inspired her cricket career. Uma Chetry, the first player from the North East to debut for India, said it was a moment of pride for her state and the region.

The Prime Minister appreciated the diverse backgrounds of the players, saying their unity symbolizes India’s strength in diversity. He personally acknowledged the contributions of families, especially the parents who supported their daughters’ dreams against all odds.

PM Modi’s Message: Inspire and Stay Fit

Calling the team “true ambassadors of women empowerment,” PM Modi urged them to visit their alma maters and inspire students by sharing their stories. He suggested that each player select three schools to visit over the next year to motivate young minds, particularly girls, to take up sports.

He also emphasized the importance of the Fit India Movement, advising the players to promote health awareness and help combat lifestyle diseases like obesity. “If India’s daughters stay fit, the nation will stay fit,” he remarked.

Celebrating a Historic Milestone

The Indian women’s cricket team’s triumph has ignited a wave of pride and optimism. Their journey from near defeats to lifting the World Cup reflects perseverance, teamwork, and the power of belief. The Prime Minister concluded the interaction by expressing confidence that their success would inspire a new generation of athletes across the country.

As India continues to celebrate this milestone, the players’ stories of grit and grace serve as powerful reminders that women in sports are redefining the nation’s sporting spirit.
