In his departure statement, the Prime Minister said the visit reflects India’s age-old civilisational connections as well as deepening modern-day bilateral relations with all three countries. The tour aims to further political dialogue, economic cooperation and people-to-people linkages.
Jordan Visit Marks 75 Years of Diplomatic Relations
The first leg of the visit takes the Prime Minister to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan at the invitation of King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein. The visit is significant as India and Jordan celebrate 75 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
During his stay in Amman, Prime Minister Modi will hold talks with King Abdullah II, Jordanian Prime Minister Dr. Jafar Hassan and Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II. He is also scheduled to interact with members of the Indian community in Jordan, who have played an important role in strengthening bilateral ties.
First-Ever Visit to Ethiopia
From Jordan, the Prime Minister will travel to Ethiopia on the invitation of Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali. This will be his first visit to the African nation, with Addis Ababa also serving as the headquarters of the African Union.
The Prime Minister noted that India values its partnership with Ethiopia and the African continent, especially after the African Union became a permanent member of the G20 during India’s G20 Presidency in 2023.
In Ethiopia, Prime Minister Modi will hold detailed discussions with the Ethiopian leadership, meet the Indian diaspora, and address a joint session of the Ethiopian Parliament, where he will speak on India’s democratic journey and cooperation with the Global South.
Final Leg in Oman
The final leg of the visit will take the Prime Minister to the Sultanate of Oman, marking 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. In Muscat, he will hold talks with the Sultan of Oman to further strengthen the India–Oman Strategic Partnership.
The visit will also focus on enhancing commercial and economic ties. Prime Minister Modi will address the Indian diaspora in Oman, acknowledging their significant contribution to Oman’s development and to bilateral relations.
Strengthening India’s Global Engagement
The three-nation visit is expected to reinforce India’s diplomatic outreach, promote cooperation in trade, energy and people-to-people exchanges, and reaffirm India’s role as a trusted partner in West Asia and Africa.
