He further expressed that these festivals symbolize spiritual renewal, compassion, and devotion. He emphasized how the traditions of holy bathing, charity, and worship during Kartik Purnima and Dev Deepavali reflect India’s timeless values of purity and collective well-being.

Spiritual Significance of Kartik Purnima

Kartik Purnima marks the full moon day of the Hindu month of Kartik and is considered one of the most sacred days for devotees. The day signifies enlightenment, purification, and devotion to Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. Taking a holy dip in rivers like the Ganga, Yamuna, and Godavari is believed to wash away sins and bring spiritual upliftment.

Across India, millions wake up before sunrise to participate in Kartik Snan (holy bath) and perform rituals for peace, prosperity, and good health. Temples and ghats witness grand aarti ceremonies, symbolizing the victory of light over darkness.

Dev Deepavali: Festival of Lights in Varanasi

Coinciding with Kartik Purnima, Dev Deepavali is celebrated with grandeur in Varanasi — regarded as the spiritual capital of India. The ghats along the Ganga river glow with millions of oil lamps lit by devotees to honor Lord Shiva and welcome the gods who are believed to descend to earth on this day.

The festival transforms Varanasi into a celestial spectacle of devotion and light, attracting thousands of pilgrims and tourists. Cultural programs, Ganga aartis, and prayers for universal harmony mark the evening celebrations.

Modi’s Message: Upholding Cultural Unity

Through his message, Prime Minister Modi reiterated his commitment to preserving India’s diverse cultural and spiritual heritage. His greetings on this sacred occasion highlight the unifying power of faith and the enduring message of light, hope, and goodness that these festivals represent.
