PM Modi Extends Onam Greetings, Highlights Unity and Harmony

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his warm greetings to people across the country on the occasion of Onam 2025, emphasizing the festival’s enduring message of unity, harmony, and cultural pride. His message highlighted the deep connection between Kerala’s traditions and the values of hope, togetherness, and respect for nature.
In his post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said, “Wishing everyone a very happy Onam! May this beautiful festival bring renewed joy, good health and abundant prosperity to all. Onam reflects the timeless heritage and rich traditions of Kerala. This festival is a symbol of unity, hope and cultural pride. May this occasion strengthen the spirit of harmony in our society and deepen our connection with nature.”

He also conveyed his wishes in Malayalam, underlining his appreciation for Kerala’s language and traditions. Modi expressed hope that Onam would inspire communities to come together, nurture social harmony, and protect the environment, which remains central to the festival’s roots.

The Significance of Onam

Onam, Kerala’s most celebrated harvest festival, marks the homecoming of the legendary King Mahabali. It is observed with cultural performances, floral arrangements known as Pookalam, traditional games, and the grand Onam Sadya feast. Beyond festivities, the occasion carries a message of equality, unity, and collective prosperity.

Celebrated over ten days, Onam brings together people across communities, making it not just a state festival but one cherished across India and among the Malayali diaspora worldwide. The government and various cultural organizations also organize special events to showcase Kerala’s heritage during this time.

Leaders and Communities Join in Celebration

Alongside Prime Minister Modi, several state leaders and public figures also shared their greetings, underscoring Onam’s growing cultural footprint. Temples, community centers, and homes have been decorated with vibrant flower carpets, and traditional boat races are drawing large gatherings this year.

For Kerala, Onam is more than a festival—it is a reaffirmation of cultural identity and an opportunity to strengthen ties with nature. Modi’s message echoed this sentiment, calling Onam a “symbol of unity and hope” that continues to inspire future generations.
