PM Modi Greets Global Indian Community on Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Thursday extended heartfelt greetings to the global Indian community on the occasion of Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas, reaffirming the immense contribution of the Indian diaspora in strengthening India’s global presence and cultural influence. The Prime Minister described overseas Indians as a powerful link between India and the rest of the world, highlighting their role as ambassadors of Indian values, traditions, and innovation.
Observed annually on January 9, Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas commemorates the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to India in 1915 and celebrates the achievements, resilience, and enduring connection of the Indian diaspora with their motherland.

Diaspora as India’s Global Bridge

In a message shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said that Indians living abroad have enriched societies wherever they have settled, while remaining deeply connected to their roots. He referred to the diaspora as India’s “Rashtradoots,” noting their role in promoting Indian culture, traditions, and values on the global stage.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the Indian community overseas has consistently contributed to India’s soft power by excelling in diverse fields such as technology, medicine, education, business, public service, and culture.

Government Initiatives to Strengthen Diaspora Bonds

Highlighting the government’s sustained engagement with overseas Indians, Prime Minister Modi underlined that several initiatives have been launched over the years to bring the diaspora closer to India. These include policy reforms, digital services, and structured platforms for dialogue and participation in India’s development journey.

Measures such as easier consular services, strengthened Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) facilities, and initiatives encouraging diaspora investment and knowledge-sharing have deepened engagement between India and its global community.

Celebrating Cultural Identity and National Pride

The Prime Minister noted that overseas Indians have played a vital role in preserving and promoting India’s rich cultural heritage across continents. From yoga and Ayurveda to Indian festivals, languages, and cuisine, the diaspora has ensured that Indian traditions flourish far beyond the country’s borders.

He further observed that the success stories of the diaspora inspire younger generations of Indians and strengthen India’s reputation as a land of talent, innovation, and opportunity.

Shared Growth and Collective Future

Prime Minister Modi reiterated that India’s growth story is closely linked with the aspirations and capabilities of its diaspora. He encouraged overseas Indians to continue partnering with India in areas such as innovation, investment, education, sustainability, and nation-building.

As India advances towards its long-term vision of inclusive development and global leadership, the Prime Minister stressed that the contribution of the Indian diaspora remains central to shaping a confident and connected future.

Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas: A Symbol of Enduring Bonds

Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas serves as a reminder of the enduring emotional, cultural, and economic ties between India and its global community. The annual observance recognizes the sacrifices, achievements, and continued engagement of overseas Indians in India’s progress.

The Prime Minister concluded by extending his best wishes to Indians around the world, expressing confidence that their collective efforts will continue to strengthen India’s voice and presence on the global stage.
