PM Modi in Argentina: A Strategic Leap Forward

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Buenos Aires for a landmark two-day state visit, aimed at expanding  India-Argentina ties across sectors like agriculture, critical minerals, energy, and investment.

First Bilateral Visit in Over Five Decades

Touching down on July 4, 2025, PM Modi was accorded a ceremonial welcome at Ezeiza International Airport. This visit marks the first bilateral trip by an Indian Prime Minister to Argentina in 57 years, and his second overall, the first being during the 2018 G20 Summit.

Modi’s visit is the third leg of his five-nation diplomatic tour, following Trinidad & Tobago and Ghana. Next, he will head to Brazil for the BRICS Summit and later to Namibia.

Talks with President Javier Milei

During his stay, PM Modi will hold wide-ranging talks with President Javier Milei. The agenda includes deepening cooperation in sectors such as:

Strengthening South-South Cooperation

Argentina and India share a growing partnership as members of the G20. Modi emphasized Argentina’s importance as a key economic partner in Latin America. This visit aims to transform shared ambitions into actionable frameworks.

“We will focus on advancing our mutually beneficial cooperation, including in the areas of agriculture, critical minerals, energy, trade, tourism, technology, and investment.” – PM Modi

From the Caribbean to the Pampas

Prior to arriving in Argentina, Modi concluded a successful visit to Trinidad & Tobago, where six agreements were signed, and he was conferred the Order of the Republic—the nation’s highest civilian honour.

The momentum from the Caribbean is expected to fuel high-impact outcomes in South America. Argentina’s growing role in critical mineral exports, especially lithium—essential for EV batteries—makes it a natural partner for India’s clean energy goals.

A Vision Beyond Borders

With this historic visit, both countries are set to unlock new dimensions in their partnership. It also sends a powerful signal about India’s expanding global outreach and its commitment to engage with emerging powers in Latin America.

Looking Ahead

As the PM prepares for the BRICS summit in Brazil, India’s diplomatic focus continues to emphasize economic collaboration, sustainable development, and mutual respect in foreign relations.

This visit is not just about signing deals—it’s about crafting a long-term vision for India-Argentina relations in a multipolar world.
