PM Modi Launches ₹18,530 Cr Projects in Assam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched and laid the foundation stones of projects worth over ₹18,530 crore in Assam. His visit focused on healthcare, connectivity, and clean energy, highlighting the government’s development push in the North-East.

Major Projects in Darrang

Modi began his day in Darrang. He laid the foundation stones for the Darrang Medical College & Hospital, a GNM School, and a BSc Nursing College. These projects will strengthen medical education and improve healthcare in Assam.

He also launched the Guwahati Ring Road Project to ease congestion and improve urban mobility. In addition, he announced the Kuruwa–Narengi Bridge over the Brahmaputra, which will improve connectivity and promote socio-economic integration.

Clean Energy and Industrial Push

In Golaghat, Modi inaugurated the Numaligarh Refinery’s Bio-Ethanol Plant. The project aims to promote renewable energy and cut reliance on fossil fuels. He also laid the foundation stone for a Polypropylene Plant at the refinery. The plant will boost Assam’s petrochemical industry, create jobs, and support the local economy.

“This is an important step towards promoting clean energy and job creation,” Modi posted on X.

Tribute to Bhupen Hazarika

On Saturday, after visiting Manipur, Modi attended the centenary celebrations of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika in Guwahati. He released a commemorative coin and stamp in the singer’s honour. Modi called Hazarika a champion of India’s unity and integrity.

“Bhupen Da dreamed of a prosperous North-East. Today, we are working day and night to realise his vision,” he said.

Upcoming Visits to West Bengal and Bihar

After Assam, Modi will head to Kolkata on 15 September to inaugurate the 16th Combined Commanders’ Conference. Later the same day, he will travel to Purnea in Bihar. There, he will inaugurate a new airport terminal and launch projects worth ₹36,000 crore. He is also set to launch the National Makhana Board ahead of the state’s assembly elections.

Modi’s multi-state tour highlights the government’s efforts to expand infrastructure and drive regional growth while paying tribute to cultural icons like Bhupen Hazarika.
