PM Modi Launches Metro Phase 2, Gujarat Gets Boost

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated Phase 2 of the Ahmedabad Metro, marking a significant milestone in Gujarat’s urban transport infrastructure. The Prime Minister flagged off metro services from the Mahatma Mandir Metro Station in Gandhinagar, strengthening seamless connectivity between Ahmedabad and the state capital region.
The inauguration of this phase opens new opportunities for faster, safer, and more sustainable public transport, benefiting thousands of daily commuters. The project reflects the Centre and Gujarat government’s continued focus on modern infrastructure development.

7.8 km Metro Stretch Opens for Public

According to the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Phase 2 includes a newly operational 7.8-kilometre stretch of the metro corridor. With this launch, seven new stations Mahatma Mandir, Sector-24, Sector-16, Old Secretariat, Akshardham, Secretariat, and Sector-10 have become accessible to the general public.

This expansion significantly enhances the reach of Ahmedabad Metro and integrates key administrative and residential zones of Gandhinagar into the urban transit network.

Direct Connectivity Between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar

With the commissioning of Phase 2, the Ahmedabad Metro network now spans a continuous 28.25-kilometre route from Motera in Ahmedabad to Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar. Officials stated that this connectivity will substantially reduce travel time between the twin cities.

The improved metro services are also expected to ease traffic congestion on arterial roads, offering commuters a reliable alternative to private vehicles.

PM Modi Highlights Ease of Living

Sharing glimpses of the inauguration on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening urban infrastructure. He noted that the completion of the remaining Phase 2 stretch would significantly boost the ‘Ease of Living’ for residents of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.

The Prime Minister emphasized that investments in metro rail projects are integral to building future-ready cities while ensuring environmental sustainability.

Aligned With Vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat

The Gujarat CMO stated that the Ahmedabad Metro project aligns closely with the Prime Minister’s vision of modern, sustainable, and inclusive urban transport. The project also contributes to the broader goals of Atmanirbhar Bharat by strengthening state-of-the-art public infrastructure.

Metro rail systems, officials said, play a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions and promoting clean mobility in rapidly urbanizing regions.
