PM Modi Meets Myanmar Leader at SCO Summit

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting with Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of Myanmar’s State Security and Peace Commission, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Tianjin. The leaders discussed strengthening bilateral ties and key areas of cooperation.

Focus on Bilateral Cooperation

During the discussions, PM Modi highlighted India’s strategic priorities under its Neighborhood First, Act East, and Indo-Pacific policies. Both leaders reviewed multiple dimensions of bilateral cooperation, including development partnerships, defence and security collaboration, border management, and trade facilitation.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of ongoing connectivity projects, noting that improved links would foster people-to-people interactions and strengthen regional integration in line with India’s Act East vision.

Support for Peace and Democratic Process

PM Modi expressed hope that the forthcoming elections in Myanmar would be conducted in a fair and inclusive manner involving all stakeholders. He reaffirmed India’s support for a Myanmar-led and Myanmar-owned peace process, stressing that dialogue and consultation remain the only sustainable path forward.

India’s Developmental Support

The Prime Minister reiterated India’s readiness to assist Myanmar in meeting its developmental needs. This includes support for infrastructure, connectivity, and collaborative initiatives that can promote socio-economic progress and strengthen regional stability.
