Kabir Jayanti 2025: PM Modi Pays Tribute to Sant Kabir Das

A Timeless Legacy of Social Harmony

On the occasion of Kabir Jayanti 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid glowing tribute to the 15th-century mystic poet and social reformer Sant Kabir Das, whose teachings continue to influence Indian society profoundly.

Sant Kabir Das, a mystic poet who transcended religious barriers through his dohas.

In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi wrote in Hindi:

“सामाजिक समरसता के प्रति आजीवन समर्पित रहे संत कबीरदास जी को उनकी जयंती पर मेरा कोटि-कोटि नमन। उनके दोहों में जहां शब्दों की सरलता है, वहीं भावों की प्रगाढ़ता भी है।”

He further emphasized that Kabir Das’s contributions towards eliminating social evils and promoting spiritual equality will always be remembered with deep reverence.

Why Sant Kabir Still Matters

Sant Kabir Das, born in Varanasi, was a towering figure in the Bhakti movement. Through his simple yet profound dohas (couplets), he challenged societal norms, caste divisions, and religious dogmas.

Kabir preached unity, love, and truth. His couplets transcend time, offering insights into life, devotion, and humanity.

Example of a famous doha:

“Bura jo dekhan main chala, bura na milaya koi;
Jo mann khoja apna, to mujhse bura na koi.”

(I set out to find evil in the world but found none. When I searched within, I discovered I was the worst.)

This message remains deeply relevant in today’s polarized world.

PM Modi’s Acknowledgment of Kabir’s Teachings

PM Modi has often cited Sant Kabir Das in his speeches. His consistent references highlight Kabir’s influence on modern India’s moral and cultural framework.

During today’s tribute, PM Modi reiterated how Kabir’s spiritual wisdom and social consciousness continue to inspire millions. His message aligns closely with the government’s broader focus on Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, a vision of inclusive growth and harmony.

Sant Kabir’s Relevance in Modern India

In an age of social media and digital echo chambers, Sant Kabir’s call for introspection and self-awareness feels more urgent than ever. His teachings ask us to rise above superficial labels and seek truth in simplicity.

Educational institutions across India marked Kabir Jayanti with online doha recitation contests and discussions on Kabir’s impact. Social reformers and scholars also highlighted Kabir’s role in bridging divides between Hindus and Muslims, rich and poor, literate and illiterate.
