PM Modi Pays Tribute to 2001 Parliament Attack Martyrs

RR Team, December 14, 2025December 13, 2025
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid solemn tribute to the brave security personnel who sacrificed their lives while defending the Parliament of India during the terrorist attack on 13 December 2001. Marking the anniversary of one of the most serious assaults on India’s democratic institutions, the Prime Minister remembered the fallen heroes with deep respect and gratitude on behalf of the nation.
The tribute highlighted the enduring legacy of courage, vigilance and commitment displayed by the martyrs, whose actions ensured the safety of Parliament and upheld the sanctity of India’s democracy. More than two decades later, their sacrifice continues to resonate across the country.

Prime Minister’s Message of Remembrance

In a message shared on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi said the nation remembers with profound respect those who laid down their lives in the line of duty. He noted that the bravery shown by the security personnel in the face of grave danger remains an inspiration for every Indian.

“On this day, our nation remembers those who laid down their lives during the heinous attack on our Parliament in 2001. In the face of grave danger, their courage, alertness and unwavering sense of duty were remarkable. India will forever remain grateful for their supreme sacrifice,” the Prime Minister wrote.

A Defining Day in Independent India

The terrorist attack on Parliament on 13 December 2001 marked a defining moment in India’s contemporary history. Armed terrorists attempted to breach the Parliament complex while the Winter Session was underway, posing a direct threat to elected representatives and the democratic process itself.

The swift response of security forces and Parliament staff prevented the attackers from entering the building. While the threat was neutralised, several security personnel and workers lost their lives in the line of duty, turning the day into a solemn chapter of sacrifice and heroism.

Honouring Courage and Duty

The Prime Minister’s tribute underscored the values embodied by the martyrs courage under pressure, constant alertness and an unshakeable sense of responsibility. These qualities, he noted, go beyond individual acts of bravery and reflect the ethos of service that safeguards the nation.

Over the years, successive governments and leaders across the political spectrum have commemorated the Parliament attack anniversary as a mark of respect to those who stood firm in defence of India’s sovereignty and democratic institutions.

National Gratitude and Collective Memory

Every year, the anniversary serves as a moment of collective reflection for the country. Tributes are paid not only to honour the past but also to remind citizens of the constant vigilance required to protect democratic values from forces of extremism and violence.

The memory of the 2001 attack remains deeply etched in the national consciousness. It stands as a reminder that the freedoms enjoyed in a democracy are protected by individuals who are prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice in its defence.

India’s Resolve Against Terrorism

By recalling the events of 13 December 2001, the Prime Minister’s message also reaffirmed India’s firm stand against terrorism. The tribute reflected a broader national resolve that acts of terror will never be allowed to weaken the country’s democratic foundations.

Security personnel across the country continue to draw inspiration from the martyrs of the Parliament attack, whose actions set a benchmark for professionalism, courage and devotion to duty.

An Enduring Source of Inspiration

As India moves forward, the legacy of the 2001 Parliament attack martyrs continues to inspire future generations. Their sacrifice is remembered not only in official ceremonies but also in the everyday commitment of those who serve in uniform.

The Prime Minister’s tribute captured the sentiment shared by millions across the country  that the courage displayed on that day will never be forgotten, and the nation will forever honour those who stood between terror and democracy.
